Made a plug for Howard Dean and DemocraticUnderground.com yesterday
On Sep 7, I’ll be in the Atlanta Journal Constitution http://www.ajc.com/ . I took a friend from work yesterday to see Howard Dean at a house party in Manchester, NH. Actually he got the postcard, but wasn’t going to go. He’s a bit shy, so I told him “If I go, will you?” And he said “Yes.” So we went together. Manchester, NH is about an hour’s drive north of Marlborough, MA, where I work, but due to traffic and an accident it took us 1.5 hours to get there.

My friend is a registered Independent, but leans Democratic. He once worked on Jerry Brown’s campaign in 1992. He’s leaning Dean because I discussed it with him a couple weeks ago and he saw Howard on Larry King and has scanned Dean’s website, but because of his experience on Brown’s campaign, which collapsed, he’s reticent about fully committing to Dean. He sees a lot of Brown’s tactics in Dean’s and is a just bit leery of fully committing at this stage. However, I got him signed up on the main campaign and on the Nashua, NH Meetup. If the election were held today, he'd vote Dean. None of the other candidates interest him, including potentional candidate Wesley Clark.

The reason I’ll be in the paper, should they not omit it, I was interviewed along with my friend by a reporter from that paper. I had worn my “Axis of Evil” t-shirt that I had gotten from this great web site. The reporter had seen it and that’s how our conversation got started. So on Sep 7, 2003 go to the Atlanta Journal Constitution’s website http://www.ajc.com/ and see if my t-shirt and I are mentioned in the article about Howard’s Day in Manchester, NH.

2. I'll look for it if I can remember, Larkspur! It's fun being
interviewed by a reporter especially when it involves politics!

That happened to me in April when I was protesting the Baseball Hall Of Fame! :-)

It's amazing what went on in Portland, today! With all the thousands of protestors and someone said cnn said there were only "250"!

5. You're welcome!
I'm best at one-on-one diplomacy and hope it pays off for Dean.

I just keep reminding myself what Gloria Steinem told me on June 23, 2003 -- the same day Governor Dean made his formal announcement. I met Gloria at a reception at the AAUW convention. I was wearing my Howard Dean button and when she saw it her eyes lighted up and she asked if I was from Vermont. I responded, "No, I'm from Connecticut, but am supporting Howard Dean for President, and today was the day that he was making his formal announcement." She tapped my Howard Dean button, looked into my eyes and said, "Howard Dean is a good man. We need to wear our political buttons and paraphanelia more now than ever before." That was not a formal endorsement, but she didn't have to tell me that either. Her words have become my personal mantra and it keeps me motivated. Of course, Gov. Dean just keeps getting me more excited as his campaign grows.
