2. As long as we are on the subject of Powell |
|
If he is such a man of honor, why did he refuse President Clinton's request for him to remain in his post. He "retired" only to return once the neo-cons were back in power. Seems awfully partisan to me.

3. I agree, but this isn't bad. |

In the past 2 years I have been astounded at the number of people who remain frightened by the idea of terrorists coming to kill them. It's amazing. They have more of a chance of getting killed by lightning or drowning.
But perceptions are all in this political climate, and if Clark can make some people feel "safe" then it's a good move to have him as VP or something. I think a Dean/Clark ticket would be unbeatable. They would both kick butt in debates and neither would soft-pedal anything. Talk about energizing!

In the past six months, I've watched car bomb barricades being built that guard the building across the street where I work. I've also seen officers searching the manifests of trucks on the same block, military guys with attack rifles at minor league baseball games, and the NYC police on high alert three or four times when there was nothing about an imminent terrorist threat on the news.

If there is a major attack again in NY then an awful lot of businesses that have been struggling since 9/11 will be wiped out. And if this city tanks it will drag the country along with it.

4. Oh gawd! Another mealy mouthed "leader" like Powell may get us all killed. |
|
If I were Clark I'd avoid any and all comparisons to Powell.
Three years ago it might have been ok but now?!
Yuck.

5. Exactly I have heard a few Clark supporters use the analogy |
|
of Clark to Powell as if it were a good thing. It is not good at all. Powell is a stooge.

Yes, Powell is a stooge. Clark isn't.

|
But sometimes people say that as if that were a reason to vote for Clark. I don't think it is. I do think that if Clark declares, there are many good reasons to vote for him.

We'll keep that in mind. Some of those Clark supporters are used to angling for independent voters...wonder what they think of Powell now...

I sometimes forget that people may be used to angling to get votes from more independent voters. IT is good best that outside of DU many of us are using different strategies to attract people to vote for a Democratic candidate. Thanks for reminding me that we are on the same side, just using different approaches.

Also, again, while we are on this subject, disavow yourselves of any notion that Clark would accept a VP position. He is top drawer elite liberal dem and, believe me, they have plans. Seems everything is going their way, too. Don't get me wrong, I like him. Just want that Axciom thingamajiggy cleared up. I would also like to know his net worth. Could tell us a lot. After all, career military don't make a huge amount of money; don't know about Supreme Commanders of NATO though. I would also like to see some pictures of his family. Guess he's holding back on those too. Maybe he's right. After he declares is soon enough for the reporters and photojournalists, but maybe-would-be-supporters want to know how the missuz shakes down. Oh well, 'nuff said.

17. Clark has gone the opposite direction from Powell based on similar info |
|
The cross-appeal is the valid comparison. Paul Krugman predicted Bushco would ruin Powell's reputation.

|
You must be thinking of the Powell that had a reputation before he decided to lie to the world. I'll say good riddence to the vermin!
Clark on the other hand, is an admirable General that gives a shit about the direction his country is going in. We can only hope that he'll either run or accept a spot in the Government.

23. I saw pics of Mrs. Clark... |
|
somewhere. I can't for the life of me remember what she looked like. Seemed perfectly normal, acceptable in every way. I seem to recall that she is not a native of this country. Argentina maybe? I think you could probably find pics at either womenforclark.com or maybe it was santabarbaraforclark.com.
