The "You Hate America" accusation (RANT!)
I am so sick of hearing this false accusation from people who have taken up the Left Bad/Right Good culture war! The accusation is not only false, IT'S an insane thought! Truly whacko!!!

As a mother, if someone is bullying my child, taking food out of their mouths, setting up policies in the school that will be harmful to them, poisoning their air and water, takes actions that jeopardize their safety or in any other way puts their well-being at risk...am I going to just sit by and watch? Am I going to get behind them and tell them their doing the right thing?

HELL NO!!! I'm going to fight tooth and nail! I'm going to do whatever it takes to get rid of them! I'm going to protest, get petitions signed, involve others, contact appropriate authorities, write letters...whatever it takes!

Is that because I hate my children?!?!?

Assholes!!!

(There! I feel better!)

*back to your regularly scheduled media mind twist*

2. if by america one means the 25M poor, yes i hate that america
if by america one means a nation that invades another without cause and causes the deaths of tens of thousands, yes, i hate that america.

if by america one means a nation whose median income has fallen $1,500, yes, i hate that america.

if by america one means a nation that holds without trial those citizens who disagree with the government, yes, i hate that america.

if by america one means a nation that has 45M uninsured, yes, i hate that america.

if by america one means a nation that is fast becoming a pariah to a civilized world, yes, i hate that america.

if by america one means a nation that has as a policy the torture of its prisoners, yes, i hate that america.

and i would ask those who say that i hate that america, "why don't you?"

3. If THIS SHIT is America, you're damn right I hate it!
If the Supreme Court gets to elect the President, then I hate America.

If the President gets to send our young people to war based on lies--and without a declaration from Congress--then I hate America.

If a wartime deserter is somehow fit to be Commander-in-Chief of all our armed forces, then I hate America.

If our unelected leader is either too stupid or too incompetent to stop an air attack that he knew was coming, then I hate America.

If the wealthy get three consecutive tax cuts while everybody else has to struggle even harder, then I hate America.

If it's "good for the economy" to send American jobs overseas and throw Americans out of work, then I hate America.

If it's suddenly NOT OK to disagree with the pResident--in a country that was FOUNDED on disagreement--then I hate America.

Any questions?

:hurts:

4. Yes, you are right!
My brother and I have a running joke (though it's getting kind of old) that whenever one of us points out the latest horror that can be attributed to Bush/Cheney, the other dead-pans:"You hate freedom."

I think that the democrats need to refine their sense of humor to define the stupidity of this right-wing republican response. We need to be able to make it a joke, in order to discourage the republican use of "You hate America/freedom".

We also need to have our most credible speakers -- people like Mario Cuomo -- address this very significant issue that you raise. I'm getting tired of the republican talking heads saying: "Look at those protesters! They're weird. Look at their hair and ear-rings. They are democrats," and not having a response from the democratic leadership.

Yes, they are democrats, and I'm so proud of them. I'm so proud to have young people in America who think for themselves, and act for others. I'm proud of that. And I'm ashamed to think republicans want a soldier who died for nothing to represent the best in America. We could use a good discussion about freedom and hatred. Let's put the cards on the table.

7. EXACTLY.
If I hated this country, I'd be a Republican and work hard to help them to continue to destroy it. They're doing a better job than the terrorists.

The fact that I stand up and speak out shows that I believe in this country and what it stands for. The Republicans would have the participants of the Boston Tea Party make nice and not cause a fuss.

8. People who don't believe in democracy hate America.
People who want to stifle dissent hate America.
People who want to turn the President into a king hate America.
People who want to stop others from voting rather than encouraging it hate America.
People who do things to make us less safe, less secure, and less economically independent hate America.

Those people are Republicans.

9. Freedom is slavery, war is peace, dissent is treason
I saw a bumper sticker the other day:

There are Americans and then there are liberals

Not only are they telling those of us fighting to keep America a great country we hate the country we are fighting for, but now some don't even consider us Americans.

Um, what are we if we aren't Americans?

It's only been in the last three years that dissent has been labeled treason and that protesting policies is hating Bush and hating Bush is hating America.

Do I hate America when I have worked my ass off on campaigns, stepped up to be an election judge when they were desperate, attended my local caucus, was a delegate to the city and senate district, attended school board debates, attended debates for the state senate district primary?

Do I hate America when I am trying to get my anemia under control long enough to donate blood to send to Iraq for my neighbor's son and others like him?

If I hated America, I'd be living in Sweden instead.

11. Just tell them, "I love the sinner, but hate the sin"
And watch them squirm!

That's the line I have ready if it's ever thrown in my face.
Since I have a fundie family, they'll get it, of course.
