What Free Republic Is Saying About The Debates
I saw this posted on the Kerry forum. These are comments from Free Republic

"Even THEY know Kerry won. From Free Republic (a very pro-Bush site):

"This is a sad thing. I am panicking....Bush is not doing well at all."

"I agree. The President is taking this very personally and it's affecting his delivery."

"You're not alone....and this topic is the President's strength.

I have a heart heavy with dread and disappointment."

"Bush is trying to remember points covered in debate prep instead of sitting back and talking as he does on the campaign trail.
Bush is not smooth, is too defensive, and is allowing major openings to pass.

This is not going well for Bush, I'm afraid."

"Well we just lost the election.

The President looks like a wimp and responding very poorly. Kerry is confidant and hitting all his points. Kerry sounds convincing.

I think kerry will convince the fence sitters and add the fraud to the mix we will lose.

And I though GWB was going win by a landslide.

What the hell happened to the President.

I just hope that my expectations were so high that any performance by GWB would be poor and any performance by kerry would be good.

I am not very happy right now."

"Kerry is looking really good.....very articulate, many facts back and forth.

BUsh is just saying the same talking points.

THIS IS A DISASTER!

I am just about ready to shut it off....Kerry is going to shoot up in the polls like crazy next week.....it is going to be horrible."

"Oh crap.

Kerry just gave a zinger to Bush on the enemy attacking us.

Kerry is winning by FAR.

Disastrous."

"Bush needs more facts, I am very ardent Bush supporter, but Kerry has facts, Bush is not hammering Kerry on things he has said and done in the past. He keeps talking about the messages. Bush needs to get on game or he will lose ground in the polls after tonight."

"Bush is phumphering and sticking too much to catch phrases and cliches.
He is definitely not winning this debate."

"Bush needs to stop hunching over... When shown from behind, as they're doing often, he looks awful, insecure... He needs to be erect.
Man, I don't know how so many of you see this 180 from me. I think that for those who don't know the truth (of Skerry's lies), he's going to convince many that HE's more qualified

His comment ..."Of course I know SBL attacked us. I know that"... What??? ARRRGGGHHH. He's doing AWFUL!!! Wake up folks, and be honest with yourselves."

"Didn't he practice at all?! Geez....he has no facts and figures...Iraq is a huge success, but the American public needs him to clearly tell us...he ain't doing it.

PRAY FOR HIM"

"Bush seems a bit intimidated. Bush still has time, but if he doesn't turn this around, then Kerry's going to benefit quite a bit from this debate. "

"Easy, amigo....if Bush is getting his ass kicked - because he for some reason is NOT rebutting Kerry's lies - he's getting his ass kicked. There's no denying it.

So far, Bush's performance deserves complaints....and if you think I'm a Kerry supporter, have a look at my posting history, Newbie!"

"THIS IS HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!

We may have lost the election tonight. "

"W- keep the sarcasm out of your voice- it sounds condescending."

"You know, my husband is really making me depressed. He is saying Bush is losing this debate"

"No he's not. Forget about what they're saying. Kerry's attitude and manner are better, and on TV that, unfortunately, is the key."

"I don't think W is doing well at all. I know he's not a smooth talker, but he's way on the defensive and that's because Leher isn't asking anything tough for Kerry to have to defend."

"I totally agree. If Bush says "it's hard work..there's a lot of good people out there working hard...." I'm going to scream.

"He is definitely not winning this debate.
I'm afraid you're right. Bush is trying to remember talking points instead of sitting back, relaxing, and just pointing out all the stuff he knows.

Kerry is very good. He's got command of the facts. Bush is speaking in general platitudes.

I don't like this. Bush is doing just about as poorly as he possibly could do."

"I agree. I had to shut it off for fear of rubbing my face in the floor in frustration. Bush used a 30 second rebuttal to say the same thing he said four times already. Word for word. And even stuttered and stumbled while saying it.

ARGH, here goes the polls up for Kerry. I love Bush, but I don't think he's done well with this. People have gotten bored and moved on to CSI reruns or something on cable by now."

"Kerry IS looking good but his facts are not factual. I agree this is looking like a disaster. This debate is hanging on style NOT substance. I agree. I am scared to death."

"W has the facts and the message, Kerry has the rhetorical slicks. The mushy middles don't care to process facts. They go for looks. We'll be down in the polls over the next couple days.
I wish that the President's stage presence had been better tonight. He lost some ground, IMO."

"Damn...I thought it was just me. I live in Austin, TX and have seen W in large & small gatherings, and he is SO stiff tonight (over coached?) and Kerry is smarming charm all over the stage, and probably the undecideds.

Content-wise..W is the man..but his usual natural ease, appeals to common sense, and subtle humor just AIN'T there tonight!!! What happened?"

"I think I'm going to be sick. This is not good.
I'm afraid we may get 4 years of a panderer in chief. And I don't mean President Bush."

"Mr Bush is definitely on the defensive. I really hoped it would go better. I was disappointed he did not somehow link Iraq with the 9/11/01 attacks at al qaeda.

I thought the last time that Gore did better than Bush but polls didn't really reflect this. So hopefully Mr Bush will come out of this better than I think he is.

Again though, Dick Morris was wrong! He said Bush would cream Kerry in the debates. I wish Dick had been right this time."

"I feel sick in my stomach. I think Kerry is winning hands down. I hate to say it, but its what I feel."

"Listening on radio....The President doesn't sound so hot. Sen. Kerry sounds authorative....even though everything he's talking about is all 2nd guessing."

"I don't think I have ever seen such a lopsided debate. Bush has lost his footing if he ever had it.

Kerry supported every decision made and is not being held accountable.

Bush sounds like a high school cheerleader speaking against a seasoned veteran.

It is most regrettable."

"Agree. President Bush must stand straighter. He is leaning on the podium which is not a commanding position for any debate. Keep praying everyone...that is the best we can give President Bush."

"There are millions of Americans who (wrongfully) think Bush is shallow, dumb, airhead, an idiot.
I don't think Bush has changed a single mind.

There are countless millions who belive the Dem lies that Bush lied time and again...

Not only did Bush not change any minds, but I'd bet my bottom dollar that he's added millions more to the ranks by NOT CHALLENGING SKUMBAG SKERRY."

"Did you hear when Kerry caught Bush in the Saddam did not attack us on 9/11 moment?

What was Bush's response....."of course I know OBL attacked us."

THAT was his response? THAT!!!!!!!!!!

THAT WAS INCREDIBLY WEAK. THAT ONE LINE HAS COST US MANY VOTES TONIGHT."

"I agree, unfortunately. I'm watching on CSpan with the split screen, and GWB looks too fidgety and frustrated. "

"Been watching for an hour.

Bush is like Reagen in that first debate. He sounds beleaguered, and his plaintive tone is unpresidential.

He is on the defensive, and is the LOSER in the debate. He invokes the extra reburral when he has lost the point, and doesn't know enough to let it go when he has little more to say.

I went in thinking Bush would be the powerful victor. but Kerry owns Bush in this debate.

I hope no intelligent undecided voters are watching!"

13. President Bush got h is head handed to him.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1231992/posts?q=1&&page=2401

Without reading the prior posts, I believe President Bush got his head handed to him. I can't believe how inarticulate he was and had such a smug look on his face.
More importantly, I was disappointed that with Kerry babbling on about coalitions that Bush did not speak of sovereignty until his closing remarks. I was also disappointed that Bush did not tell Kerry he has no way of knowing the intricacies of the innner circle's state policies.

And why did it take Bush in his closing comments to finally make the point of keeping terrorism offshore? He eluded to that frequently about being on the "offense", but didn't make it clear about taking the fight to them.

Also, I kept hearing "talking points" from Bush, which is usually the demcRATs M.O.

84. You don't lower expectations of a sitting President
It is one thing to be a candidate for office and have lowered expectations but from the President of the United States you must have the very highest expectations. They can not ever get away with that one again. We not only expect more but we demand more from our President.

15. Freepers are a pessimistic bunch by nature anyway
That's why they're conservatives. Remember, these people hold the keys to all of the branches of government but to hear them talk they're the most disenfranchised group in the country. BTW, one of them posted that Kerry had to have been given the questions beforehand because he was answering them without waffling like he usually does. Morons.

53. Freepers are not conservatives
I'm from a conservative military family who are genuine conservatives and can assure you this new group of Republicans are not at all conservative. Most have just been misled by corporate propagandists who want to blow and/or steal their tax dollars, pollute their air and land, and ship their jobs overseas. You can see by some of the comments how confused they are. They are trying to figure out why Bush didn't call Kerry on his " lies."

I just hope some will have the courage to admit to themselves they've been lied to by this group. It's normal to feel embarrassed after being taken by a flimflam artist but what adult hasn't been fooled at one time or another?

72. You're right. The freepers believe the lies.
That's why they're disappointed in shrub's performance. They can't understand why he isn't telling the "facts" as freepers know them - the freepers really believe that Saddam was responsible for 9/11, that Iraq is going great, that there were WMD in Iraq, etc. etc. The freepers believed the lies.

shrub tried to sneak in a couple of lies last night but Kerry was ready and rebutted very effectively.

The truth is coming out - slowly but surely.

41. Slam Dunk, and a Shattered Backboard
This is the absolute ideal scenario for Kerry's campaign. Not only do they have Bush on the defensive, but they have his core constituency in panic mode. Facts seem to have the same effect on hardcore republicans as turning on the lights has on cockroaches - they reflexively scatter and hide in a safe place. Tonight, they were not allowed to scatter. Tonight, every single one of them had to sit down and listen to the facts, whether they liked it or not.

Kerry did a wonderful job of laying out solid evidence and statistics, all of them were irrefutable, and Bush's only responses were flailing attempts to characterize Kerry as a flip-flopper. This is the hard brick wall of reality that many of those armchair pundits at FreeRepublic need to experience before they go through the necessary phases of questioning their candidate's integrity, and then mustering up the nerve to stray from their ideological stubbornness to vote for a democrat.

46. Bush Bent his Wookie
Yeah, that was a really subtle dig at Bush's grade-school "Kerry is a flip-flopper" routine. It showed that Kerry has the ability to fire back and defend himself without being explicit and contemptuous. That puts him in incredible contrast with Bush, whose whole campaign is based on juvenile repetition of half-truths and appeasements for his core followers.

If the rest of the debates go this way (and they will), Kerry's going to enjoy solid media coverage of his positions on key subjects - not just forehead-slappingly ignorant right-wing interpretations of them. When Kerry starts getting accurately represented in the media, that's when we'll see some permanent damage to Bush's poll numbers.

The great thing is not just one or two little polls, but ALL major polls show Kerry as the candidate of choice by an UNDENIABLE margin when it comes to his handling of foreign policy questions tonight. And that was supposed to be Bush's *strong* point!

Kerry's a dirty player. He purposefully waited until Bush was halfway across the stage to make his opening appearance. This gave his handlers the ability to cue the audience supporters to distinguish his entrance with cheers. It was pretty low down but effective. It threw off the President.

Also Kerry's great at 20/20 hindsight. And making sound like he would have seen the myriad of unexpected challenges with greater success. He's the high school smart ass. He's the brown noser at work. He's the guy you love to hate.

I have to agree. I almost feel sorry for Bush. He has not done well while Kerry, despite his record of flip-flops has shown himself to be a good debater. He is a liar though...he just said that he has never waivered. I don't know that this debate will make a difference in the election though. As another poster said, it's like watching a train wreck.

I too am really concerned about this debate, but I know God is in control. I have, as well as others, prayed for this debate. I am fasting right now. I do think we are too close to this & care too much.

I'm not new and I'm not down on Bush, but I do feel that W brought a boxing glove to a knife fight.

This is not good from Hillary's view.

It is obvious Kerry had the questions beforehand. He can't even answer straight at a news conference ordinarily. The press and media are determined Bush is going to lose. They gave him the questions.

i hate to have to say this, but i think those who say that Bush is winning this debate re whistling past the graveyard.

Bush is getting his ass whipped, and the tragety is he doesn't have to.

OOOHHH Lehrer gave W a HUGE softball and W let it go.

"I dont' take it personally"- yes you do W! That's why you're so upset!

he's looking fratboy. And here comes Kerry calm and focused- not good for W even though Kerry is still talking mumbo jumbo.

One more thing. i think many freepers on this thread would have done better than Bush did tonight.

This is not defeatism. This is reality, and i pray Karl Rove and Bush will learn from this.

yea I don't get it.... Why couldn't he use them? They're right! So frustrating watching him sit there and take it.

Maybe that was what the bush camp wanted to happen. Let Bush sit there and take all the jabs in the first debate, and just tense up and take it again, and again, turning cheek after cheek... might gain support from people... People love a strong underdog. Then in Round two the bruised and embattled warrior keeps taking the jabs but towards the end gets a few swings of his own..., and finish strong with a round 3 with a flurry of punches and an uppercut sending the senator down for the count and the crowd goes wild!!!?

Or he was really tired from visiting with people in Florida today. Either way. God Bless Mr. President Bush. :)

At the moment I cannot connect to the FR server.

Maybe I erred in my judgement. But I was unable to find this thread via their search engine.

I expected to come in to work today ready for an earful from my repug coworkers but they are eerily quiet. Meanwhile I am strutting like a proud peacock.

71. No, what is important is to forget this victory and
Enter the next 2 rounds with the exact same attitude: as a challenger.

Perhaps even with more dedication and concentration now, since it's pretty clear to everyone JK is no underdog anymore.

80. I collected these quotes. I'm NM4Kerry on the Kerry forum...
Edited on Sat Oct-02-04 04:29 AM by blueblitzkrieg
and they are NOT FAKE. I collected them while the debates were going on. There were 3,000+ posts on their live debate thread and I probably read only a couple pages and came up with these. These were just the tip of the iceberg.

I don't know if they were deleted or not, but I can assure you these are 100% retard freeper.

EDIT: and the reason I didn't directly link to the Free Republic thread is 'cause on the Kerry forum links to anti-Kerry websites are deleted
