So did the fact that Fox was manning the cameras.......... |
|
make any difference at all?
Did it hurt Kerry in any way that anyone noticed after all of the fear that it would?

11. Cameramen are union workers |
|
I doubt even Fox could get away with non-union cameramen. Most union members are dems...

5. They did zoom in on Bush so that he appeared at a level height |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-30-04 11:11 PM by jmags
with Kerry. Perhaps that was one of the rules of the debate though and not Fox's doing.
And since the taller candidate has always won the popular vote since television...that seemed rather relevant.

13. Thats neither sides call |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-30-04 11:26 PM by walldude
that is standard headroom for a podium shot. The shot is judged by how far the speakers head is from the top of the screen, not by any other factors. The call is made by the director. The cameraman has an adjustable marker in his moniter that he can set for where his director calls the headroom. It only becomes an issue when the speaker is figiting and moving around nervously :D :D :D

that Kerry was taller and way more presidential.

6. They did zoom in on b* |
|
However, I think it was pretty obvious what was going on. Kerry looked tall. He was towering over the podium and b* looked like he was standing on a box and trying to hold himself up over the top of it. Like a kid in his dad's suit.

|
I thought they weren't allowing "reaction shots".
Camera left, Kerry speaking forcefully. Camera right, Dubya scratching.

8. Had him lit darker, made * look taller than he was |
|
but it didn't help! * looked fake-tan orange, trying to counter Kerry's REAL tan!

10. I noticed a blue color cast on Kerry |
|
when I was watching on PBS. It was too obvious not to have been intentional. Bush's image looked much warmer. I didn't notice it as much when I switched to CSPAN.

14. *'s podium was higher |
|
I believe it was written into the debate rules that *'s podium would be higher to counteract Kerry's huge height difference. Kerry's height difference makes a difference, because it makes him look 'stronger', and * needed all the help he could get, as we saw.
And it still wasn't enough.

17. Your post about headroom doesn't really make any sense........ |
|
with regard to explaining why the Bush's camera was slightly zoomed in to hide the fact that he is much shorter than Bush.

At the end, when * was making his "valley" speech, the cameras started bopping around slightly - for a while, * seemed slightly 'taller'. Did anyone notice that?
Now, was that movement because the cameramen were beng told to get height, or was it because that they, like most of us, were laughing our asses off while watching the pathetic closing remarks of the whining chimp?

Weird, with the podiums like that. People noticed.
Other than that, much to my surprise...nothing happened on Faux.

23. Other networks had cameras too |
|
Fox was manning the pool cameras (for news sources that don't choose to send their own). Other networks did still bring their own cameras along, and used different feeds and presentations. http://tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve_main/1,1002,271%7C90955%7C1%7C,00.html

Still, there were some people who pointed out in at least one of those threads that people manning the pool cameras doesn't mean they're the only cameras there. I just didn't have anything in print until tonight ;)

are exactly the same height. It's a rule...something like 50 inches.
And you can't blame the cameramen for filling the frame, (on zooming to make boosh look the same height) it's just good technique.
