Don't flame me for this, but... (Gore vs Bush in 2000)
I just saw Fahrenheit 9/11. The first shocking moment for me was the footage of Bush's limo being egged when he "won" the election. Wow. I must've been pretty ignorant to not have known about that (some of you who've seen my posts know I just recently got into politics after I kept hearing more and more Bu*shit and decided to get involved in fighting Bush). But I don't recall this anti-Bush stuff being on the news.. and I did catch the news once in a while, so I wasn't living totally under a rock. This must've been kept quiet by the neo-conservative freaks. How did I miss something as huge as this??

Another thing that my cousin & I both noticed as odd about the film were these clips of Bush in his younger years, like the clip where he's just driving along in his car (cameraman in the passenger seat), not saying a word. What the heck is up w/ that footage? Who filmed that and for what purpose? How did Moore get that footage? It's cool because it looks like it was filmed specifically for this documentary, it fits so well..but obviously that's not the case. What's the story behind all these candid clips?

Feel free to elaborate on this to any extent you wish. I look forward to buying the DVD when it comes out, as it has a bunch of extra bonus footage.

2. At the Inauguration Parade,
there were as many protesters as supporters. A couple parts of the parade route along Pennsylvania Avenue were lined with howling mobs. I marched in a demonstration and thought it was just the block I was on (about 18th St), but a heard a caller to a radio show from ten blocks away report the same thing.

The inaugural protests were mentioned in passing on TV news, but they made it sound like a few kids were running around slashing tires or something. You can be forgiven for not remembering it. In fact, it was massive. Personally, I think Bush was rattled, and that's what led to the "1st amendment zones."

9. Exactly. You got to see a little more if you were watching C-Span
but still not in any measure that truly reflected the protests. Still, it did my heart good to see it.

3. As for Bush driving in his car,
I'm pretty sure that that footage was from a campaign commercial from his unsuccessful run for the House.

4. Cool...
Thanks for the replies!

Out of curiosity (and I'm asking for a totally unbiased objective statement here), how accurate do you think F911 is in its statements?

6. with this administration, here is how you determine accuracy;
by how hard they fight against it. The harder they slander, dismiss or hogtie someone the more accurate the message they're trying to prevent.

the freeps and the neocons have a invested a GREAT deal of resources to discredit Moore. Just do a google search and you'll come up with thousands of hatemoore sites.

From this alone you should correctly infer that Moore is on track. Why derail a train that isn't coming down the track you're standing on?

7. Accurate with WHAT statements? The most damning parts of the movie
are when Bush and other RW fucksticks making fools of themselves. Hard to be inaccurate about that, eh?

8. Here's a crazy idea
Do some research and find out. I don't mean to sound pissy - I'm serious. It's important for people to educate themselves and not simply by asking others their opinions. That's good to do, too, but the problem with so many people in this country is that they are lazy about politics. They rely on the nightly news and the opinions of their friends and so they get a distorted view of things.

Dig, research, be informed.

10. Well, the point could be made that he IS researching it
tho I understand your point as well, and tend to agree in spirit. However, I'm not comfortable with your implying that PotatoBoy is lazy. (For that matter everyone who asks any question at DU could be called "lazy," and I've done it msyelf knowing that DUers would have the information I'm seeking posted almost as fast as I could get a google search page to come up.)

11. I beg your pardon
And PotatoBoy's as well. I didn't mean to imply that anyone here was lazy - I meant that as a whole, Americans are lazy about politics and that it's crucial to look at as many sources as one can to find out the facts. Hell, I come here on a daily basis and pick up an incredible amount of info. All I meant was that info supporting F9/11 is in the public record and it's important to search for those things as well as garner educated opinions.

I worded the post badly. Sorry.

12. No offense taken and none intended
I totally see skygazer's point. I have two problems though.. #1, so much of the info out there is biased either anti-Bush or pro-Bush. And #2, I don't know how to access the unbiased records..where to find them, how to get them, etc..or even where to start.

And you know, it's super easy for me to get ALL my news and info from DU, but that's not intelligent. What would be intelligent of me is to go out to unbiased sources and draw my own conclusions. I guess for now, DU is good because CLEARLY there is nothing positive at all coming from Bush and his sorry excuse for an administration. But when we do kick Bush out and we restore our usual bipartisan government (it's currently tripartisan... Democrats, Republicans, and neo-conservative right-wing nutjobs), then I might benefit more from getting news from unbiased sources.

13. sounds like a good possibility to me ...

I wonder who had the footage all this time, and was willing to leak it to Moore? (the clips seemed a bit long for a finished commercial -- was this the original raw footage?)

Welcome to DU, Emops!
