Reaction to debates, fresh from the streets of Paris.
Just spoke with my partner in Paris a few moments ago. He flew out last night for a month in Paris (I am joining him in ten short days for the rest of the month!!) and arrived this morning.

To visually make his luggage stand out for quicker, easier retrieval from the baggage carousel I slapped a couple extra Kerry/Edwards 2004 bumper stickers to his suitcase.

All the way in on the metro from the airport to our apartment in the 6th arrondisement, he encountered several (he said at least 10) Parisans who mentioned the debates and how thrilled they are that Kerry did so well. He said he got several smiles, a few "Vive Kerry" comments, and a few thumbs up and "Go Kerry" comments from American tourists and/or expatriates.

One woman on the metro spoke at length with him about how much the Europeans in general hate Bush and are praying for Kerry to win. He said she was very well versed in American politics, more so than many Americans seem to be. She was adamant that the vast majority of Frenchmen and Europeans genuinely like Americans, but hate Bush. Of course we all know this, and those of us who are fortunate to be able to travel overseas know this to be true, but it's so NICE to have validation of this, firsthand!

When I am over there in a week and a half, I'll have my laptop and will post reports of my first hand accounts here at DU.

The real test in Paris ...
If you flash those stickers and get good service at a restaurant there.

Now that would really be a story to tell!

8. Nah...I have a sweatshirt I'm going to wear. It says:
"I'm sorry my president is an idiot. I didn't vote for him" in all the official UN languages.

1. When I was in Scotland
I heard the same types of responses. Most people over there hate George Bush and are hoping he loses the election.

2. I hope that when we have a President Kerry, that we can resume
a national friendship with France, and leave all this idiotic Franco-bashing behind.

5. Same in Spain last week
We were walking down the street in Barcelona and two performers, one wearing a Bush costume and the other a Osama costume, were performing for the crowd.

They had three tip buckets lined up. One said 'pay here for Osama to beat up Bush,' one said 'pay here for Bush to beat up Osama' and the third said, 'pay here to have your picture taken beating up Bush.'

One bucket was empty, can you guess which one? }(

9. Holland too.....in a poll, 9% would vote for Bush!!!!!!
After the debate, I'm sure even less....:D:D:D

Even thoough the present Dutch government is a loyal part of the coalition, almost every person I talk to abhors Bush, his cronies, and how America is doing their thing....

10. I'll make a bet that those on the freeper lists don't hear testimony
from people overseas saying they hate Kerry. Though I can think of a few who might, I don't feel like starting a war so I'll refrain myself.
