On Friday, October 1, RIA Novosti news agency quoted a source in one of the federal ministries that reported foreign investors may be allowed to own as much as 49 percent of the shares in Russia’s natural gas monopoly Gazprom. At present foreigners are allowed to own no more than 20 percent of the company’s shares.
