What my Repub. Bush-loving mother had to say about the debate.
"I was very disappointed in Bush last night. He looked small and non-Presidential compared to Kerry and Kerry looked tall and Presidential. The fact that Bush was slumped over made it look even worse considering that he is quite a bit shorter than Kerry."

She also mentioned the expressions on Dubya's face while Kerry was speaking didn't look too good. She also felt that while Kerry sounded confident and very sure of himself that Bush did not sound very "strong or convincing."

Nevertheless, she is still planning on voting for Bush because she is a Republican through and through and would never DREAM of voting for a Democrat.

1. Maybe this year's campaign song should be....
"If I only had a brain"....the country seems to be overloaded with Wizard of Oz scarecrows!

6. Another option:
Duct Tape and phenobarbital, but you didn't hear it from me.

Seriously, if you can't talk her into voting Dem, you might be able to convince her not to vote at all.
Everything helps.

3. You might suggest another option to her: cast no vote for president.
Think she'd consider it?

7. I think there will be a lot of people who will be a little relieved.
I've had more than a few Repubs say to me that they are planning on voting for Bush but wouldn't be too upset if Kerry won.

5. Your mom is a realist.
If she watches the rest of the debates, and watches the supposed 'news', I'm a-thinkin'she just might change her tune!
Thanks for sharing.

8. Well, nice to give her honest opinion..
even though being republican thorough and thorough has nothing to do with bush..

I'm sure you've mentioned John Eisenhower's endorsement of Kerry to your Mom.

9. I'll have to tell her about that.
I doubt it will make any difference. She is 75 years old and has voted in every election - straight ticket Republican. I'll tell you one thing if either of my parents voted for Kerry - Bush would be in A LOT of trouble. They are very loyal Repubs. I don't think that they've given their usual money to the Repub. Party though. They used to give quite a bit and go to a lot of fundraisers.

They are not very enthused about Dubya.

10. Real republicans have a responsibility to rid their party of neocons
And they won't do that by keeping him in power.

They need to take their party back. Keep up the good work, encouraging your mom!

13. My husband is a Republican
(he IS a really nice guy, honest!) and he was VERY impressed with Kerry and is now swaying toward the left. The last time he voted for a Democrat was for Clinton's second term.

See, he's not an UNREASONABLE Repub ;)

15. I imagine you're at least partially responsible for his mind being open
enough to a vote for Kerry, if so you keep up the good work too!

17. I'm working on him.
We tune in to The Daily Show for "entertainment" (although my motive is to let him see the facts for himself ;)) and I make comments throughout the week about certain things: "I know Bush is a Republican, but boy, he's just spending out of control."

The great thing about the debate is that he saw for his own eyes the difference between the two men. I think he, like lots of Republicans, feel a party loyalty and think they *should* vote for Bush, but their better sense KNOWS they're wrong if they do.

16. i sent that to my father!
with a longish note. we NEVER discuss politics, ever. (though he was willing to toss out a LAME Kerry joke last time I saw them)

we certainly don't email partisan stuff. i broke the rule last night. my folks are in FL. if I can't convince them to vote in their grandchildren's interest (which was my tact in this mail) maybe they'll just STAY HOME....

20. I told my dad yesterday that Eishenhower is voting for Kerry...
He was shocked to say the least. Him and Eishenhower are about the same age and living in Kansas we're very familiar with and know the history of the Eishenhowers.

That being said it must have been a damn long time since the Republicans were "deeply concerned with the middle class". I started voting in 1972 and they sure as hell didn't give a crap back then.

12. See if she would watch some of the documentaries with you - rent
some...try to see Bush's Brain. However, I could see how disturbing any of these docs might be on a delicate gentler older loyal Republican.

18. that's the same attitude that got him 'elected'
bless your mother, she means well, and at least she's voting. no republican could've been encouraged by bush's lousy performance.

a 'former' freind of mine were discussing bush in 99. i said how can you vote for an obviously unqualified idiot? he said, it didn't matter, he wanted repubs in so he could pay less taxes.

well, i told him so
