To everyone that made calls to Ethics Committee re: DeLay!
Defendant DeLay?
Nick Smith's bribery accusations land in the majority leader's lap.
By Timothy Noah
Posted Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at 4:02 PM PT

The House Ethics Committee finally released its report about allegations by Rep. Nick Smith, R-Mich., that the House leadership tried to win his support for the Medicare drug bill last November by offering a $100,000 bribe. (In the end, Smith voted no.) The big news is that Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, admitted that he offered to endorse Smith's son Brad, who was running for Congress at the time, in exchange for Smith's "yea" vote on the Medicare bill. According to the Ethics Committee—more precisely, its investigative subcommittee—this is a violation of House rules and warrants "public admonishment." But it may warrant a good deal more.

to everyone that made calls, CHEERS!!

On Monday we can not let up. Keep the heat on and we must make more calls. DELAY IS GOING TO GO DOWN. Bugs have a short lifespan! This is one bug that has lived too long.

heat. The "Ethics" committee have much more to do. Thank you so much for your help. We need to get everyone on board for Monday and keep the heat and the light on DeLay.

The potential to take this @#@%%@@ down is huge. Ethics is Ethics everyone. Call the repubs and just say set partisan politics aside and do the right thing.

I am really appreciative of your help, Kanary. Thank you many times over.

This is not just Texas, this is a national matter.

9. What list of mine? Do you mean Calimary's at Activism?
or CitySky from today? I don't like to squash bugs, I just don't like them. It's more fun to take a small firecracker and blow up ant hills, but hey, I grew up on a ranch and I was not evil. We caught frogs, snakes, had lots of cats and a three story treehouse along with a raft we floated on several ponds within the forest. I think maybe it's time for me to go to bed and dream pleasant thoughts for us all.

Once again, Kanary, thank you.

First.

Thing.

Monday.

Morning.

Folks, I think we just MIGHT have these people on the run, or at least worrying about it. Kerry's debate victory has broken the slump and given us the momentum we've desperately needed. Now, if we can just stay fired up... Now is NOT the time to drop the ball and assume that things will just take care of themselves, or the truth will just automatically, magically, mysteriously, reign supreme. NOT IN THIS DAY AND AGE! If you want this to happen, you have to MAKE it happen. The media will not carry the ball on this. Not when they're still so concerned with carrying water for bush.

Please note the TOLL FREE CAPITOL HILL SWITCHBOARD number - it's corrected here. And then take the urgings of anarchy1999 and Kanary to heart. A worthy request - don't let it sink into nothingness by Monday!

4. I don't like bugs much at all, but I do believe there are many bugs
far nicer than DeLay. I would even venture to add the "bugs" don't want him and are ashamed to be associated with him. Maybe the bugs may even rise up and exterminate him in behalf of their good name.

5. It's not "great news" if the media doesn't put it on the news.
If this had been a Dem, he would have to resign. I call this bribery, plain and simple. What is worse, it was an attempt to bribe a government official for a policy vote. This warrants jail time to me.

6. Salon has a piece on this today.
House panel moves to limit floor access

A Cabinet member's role in pressing lawmakers to back the Medicare prescription drug law last year prompted the House ethics committee to recommend changing a 200-year-old rule allowing the president's top appointees access to the House floor.

Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson joined Republican lawmakers on the House floor in an extraordinary lobbying campaign to round up votes for the Medicare bill. The bill passed Nov. 22, after a roll-call vote lasting three hours, two hours 45 minutes longer than usual.

So now if Delay wants to twist an arm, he is going to have to pass notes.

7. I really do not know how to express to everyone here how important
Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 10:25 PM by anarchy1999
this is. If we all band together, including MoveOn and TrueMajority this man can be exposed and removed, along with all of his corruption. The book "Hammered" by Dubose, the hearings from the other day re: the Casino Corruption, along with dear Mr. Christian Coalition Reed, the list just goes on and on.

Not to mention what this POS and all his cronies have done to Texas. He deserves to be driven out, just like Newt.

Please everyone here, we can make this happen, not later this year, but right now.

The NPR interview with the author of "Hammered" was shocking. Even to me, a Texas resident.

Lou Dubose, Hammered.

8. I will help on Monday keeping the Action Alert thread bumped
and will call all the Republican/Democratic Senators on the panel.

Yes, this is important. Very important. If we do not take back the House, DeLay will continue blocking every Democratic bill and pushing every far right fundie bill.

All the bad will in the House leads back to DeLay in one way or the other.

10. Thank you. The things I've heard on NPR the last couple of days
have been shocking. I fear for this country if this man is not removed. I just wish everyone could hear the interview I heard with Dubose. He and Molly Ivins work together, this time, with this book, "Hammered", I believe he did on his own (I don't doubt Molly was helping), but it was an eye opening experience. I knew DeLay was bad news, I just had no idea how bad.

delay), REMEMBER RICHARD MORRISON! He's running AGAINST tom delay in the Sugarland, Texas area. HOW SWEET it would be to see delay unceremoniously dumped, humiliated off his swaggering, arrogant, power-mad high horse! Richard Morrison's the guy to do it.

16. The calling info from the prior thread
please light up the phones and demand a full investigation into:

Count 1 - soliciting a bribe from Westar in exchange for legislation favorable to the energy company
Count 2 - laundering $190K in PAC money thru the RNC then illegally distributing it to TX candidates
and
Count 3 - using Federal resources to track down the TX dems who fled the state in an attempt to thwart quorum for DeLay's redistricting plan

Use the toll free number ( 1-800-834-5276)and ask for each of the ten Senator's phones or call them directly:

Here's what I'm going to do, in thanks for all the work you've put into this -- I'm gonna PM 5 people here on DU and ask them to look at this thread, and follow with at least 2 or 3 phone calls.

I'm gonna put this information on 2 lists that I belong to.

I'm gonna call 5 people locally and give them the info, and ask them to call.

Then......

I'm gonna ask others here to do the same.

There's a chance here of affecting a change, and I'll do my part.

Thanks, Robbien and anarchy!!
