I was only 7 when LBJ said that he would not run for another term. For those of you that remember, what was the reaction to this?

1. I was 3 ... but I DO remember the day Nixon left |
|
I was watching TV with my dad who had come home from work for lunch. I didn't really know what was happening, or why, but I knew instinctively that I didn't like Nixon.

I was 19 at the time and then figured Bobby Kennedy was a shoo-in. Damnit.
On edit and retrospect: I had seen too many of my generation sent into the horrors of Vietnam. It was past time to get the hell out. Didn't happen for five more years and many more deaths.

3. SHOCK! and I was only a few years older. |

It's the first political address I remember. I was becoming aware at that time what it meant for my country to be in a war, and that the war was not going well.
I remember surprise and hope that the war would soon be over.
