People waking up in the heartland
Just wanted to relate an exchange with a blue-collar man in my business this week. (I live in a state that hasn't gone Dem in decades)

The guy came in and while conducting his business suddenly asked "Did you watch the debate last night?"

Went on to talk about how he liked what Kerry had to say, but the best part was his assessment of how things are under Bush. These are the points he made, which may play well when trying to wake up others:

1. "Under Clinton I had the same good job, but under Bush I've lost three jobs in 4 years."

2. "My last job went to Mexico."

3. "Bush seemed angry."

4. "Bush didn't say anything new."

5. "I believe Kerry has a plan."

Some of these points may seem like old news to us, but we have to remember that people who are not politically astute or involved in the process are just now coming to these facts. We need to help them along.

Also, this was a guy who got home from work too late to watch the debate and gleaned his information about what was said by watching the media post debate bs. And he still saw the truth!

Take heart! We are winning. Keep repeating the facts and stick to the basics. It will work.

</end pep talk>

1. The main thing to remember about the debates is THIS:
For the first time many people are seeing Kerry for themselves and not through the smears of FOX, Rush, and Hannity whose programs are usually thon only ones they can tune into. Sometime Rush Limbaugh's show is the only talk radio show in a 100-mile radius. Many of these people don't have sattelite TV or cable and are prisoners to their local media outlets which are generally controlled by the RW farts like Murdoch and others. This is their chance to educate themselves, it may be their only chance.

LOL.

I used to live in Phoenix, and occasionally drove to LA. It's amazing that in that drive across the desert, the only radio that I could surely find was some over-powered mexican Mariachi stations, and Rush.

I'm in the same boat. In 2002, I was unemployed for nine months. I am currently starting my sixth month of unemployment for the year 2004. When Clinton was President, I had people calling me to offer positions, despite the fact I was happily employed.

I know what you mean though...people just don't think...they repeat what they hear, whatever the Pigman Limbaugh, Fox and talk radio pounds into their heads, day after day, after day, and then they really believe it's truth and they came up with that conclusion all on their own...

7. I think it would be nice to catch all of Rush's lies... and then somehow..
I don't know how... but somehow legally put it to him. There has to be some sort of a law.... what he does is misleading, half baked, extreme, and most of the time borders on slander. It just seems to me that in a country such as this... that what he does should be deemed illegal.. I mean asside from his drug habit..... I would love to see a class action suit against him for libel, slander, lying to the public, etc....

It is come to my attention that either someone in the Bush campaign or a close contributor has been emailing various right wing radio talk show hosts talking points. I have a source that works for the Steve Malzberg show. The source has provided me with a copy of an email sent to Steve from someone at the Bush campaign. The source has heard that this email has been passed to other talk radio hosts at WABC radio 770 am including Sean Hannity, Laura Ingram, and Rush limbaugh.

6. I was talking with my mother in Ohio last night....
she lives in a very conservative rural area and reads the Columbus Dispatch, which is moderately Republican. Ohio politics are controlled by the Republican Taft family, which includes a former president, many former politicians, and the current governor.

My mom is politically astute. She reads the New York Review of Books and other liberal publications. However, she is also influenced by her newspaper and national TV. She saw the debate on PBS (no split screens) and felt it was mostly a draw. She said she was relieved that Kerry "finally" started making strong statements.

I set her straight about how Kerry has been making strong statements all along, but the press is biased against him. I also suggested that she watch reruns of the debate on CSPAN so she could see shrubby's behavior.

My mom is ABB - she would never support shrub. The point I'm making is that the press is very much against us in this election, especially in conservative-leaning states like Ohio. Kerry and Edwards have been campaigning a lot in Ohio, but the press doesn't report what they say.

We need to put some pressure on the newspapers and local TV stations in Ohio to do a better job presenting the facts. Any ideas? I'm going to write a letter to the Columbus Dispatch as an Ohioan native. Will others do the same? Other ideas?

We need to get the word out! The press is burying it!!!
