Dismantling the Weapons PLEASE READ! |
|
Victory on November 2 does NOT mean Mission Accomplished. The weapon threatening our democracy is NOT just W. and his gang of thugs. The real weapon is the neocon media machine. It was hard at work manipulating public opinions long before GW Bush announced his run for the White house in 2000 and it will continue to work hard to unseat JK in 2008 or sooner. We must continue to fight the fight long after we win this election. We must strive to dismantle this RW media monster. A neocon defeat this year is only a bump in the road for them, in no way does it mean that they have been defeated. We can NEVER allow another mass manipulation of public opinion to jeopardize our democracy or the future of our country again. I urge all DUers to remain active after the election. Lets grow DU in the coming months and years and lets dismantle the weapon of mass deception once and for all. We need to promote legislation that will demand truth and balance in news reporting. Entertainment and opinion shows must be labeled as such and must NOT be allowed to be disguised as legitimate news. The media monopolies must be dismantled. We need to promote legislation that requires mandatory open debates for presidential candidates with out stipulations, agreements, or censored questions. The fight has only just begun.

1. We desperately need wide reaching electoral and media reform. |
|
Or we will just have another Clinton.
The media machine, by the way, is not neocon, it is partially corporate and partially a propaganda machine setup by wealthy elites. I know its nitpicky, but the neocons are really just the shlubs who want to takeover the world, they dont have much real power.

2. Do you know Kerry's position on this |
|
Has he or Edwards indicated that they will address this problem, and how? Of course, reinstating the Fairness Doctrine would be a first step. Deregulation of media ownership has been going on steadily for years. How do you reverse this? If we don't control either the House or the Senate, I see great difficulty. You're right, we cannot let up. America's voice has been silenced for too long. Seems to me that without step one and two, we are going to be in for a very difficult fight.

3. Yah, unless we win the senate, we will have little ability to change it. |

Unless the republican party melts down.

we must bring the issue and the truth out to the people. We must be persistent and unrelenting in the pursuit of this goal. We must hound our Senators and Congressmen/women constantly. We must write letters to the editors and we must blog. I believe that most real journalists want to do what they chose as their careers, they want to report. They are being muted. They will be on our side if we make enough noise. We cannot stop.
