Talked a Republican women into voting for Kerry |
|
Just had to mention the DRAFT word. Said Bush is waiting till after the election to reinstate it. She had already heard the rumor even though she doesn't follow the news. My mention it swayed her to vote for Kerry.

1. Now we can only hope Kerry doesn't resort to it. |
|
Most people I've spoken to about the draft, point to the mess in Iraq, and say that *ANYONE* in the White House will most likely need to reinstate the draft.
Not intended as a start to some flamewar, but a remark about trust if our selling points come back to bite us.

2. That is the point though, Kerry would resort to it, Bush plans on it. |
|
Kerry has no long term intentions on staying in Iraq, Bush is building military bases.

To invade Iran and Syria and North Korea we need a Draft....
but IMHO Germany and France and other nations will help with troops in Iraq, under a Kerry admin. In the debate, Kerry talked about the 14 PERMANENT forts they are building in Iraq and that they send the wrong signal. Stopping all new PERMANENT construction will cool Iraq off IMHO.

4. I hope you're right. Most of us have lived long enough to see all |
|
politicians break promises (if that was a promise that Kerry made about the draft.... I don't remember the wording of it.....), and therefore find we don't give unlimited trust anymore.
I hope you're right.
We don't need to build any more cynicism with broken promises.

5. Well, we cant offer nothing, and Kerry cant offer nothing. |
|
No one is going to vote for a man who says "I have no f'n clue what is going to happen" even though, in this situation, that is probably the most accurate statement Kerry could make.

6. It is the single individual issues which will sway voters |
|
Not the big Neo-Con type issue stuff. I convinced my neighbor to re-consider her choice on the basis of Social Security privatization. When I explained exactly what what meant by this "ownership society" program of BushCo's, my neighbor said she was not in favor of such a thing. That issue may change her vote.
