Who's worse? McCain or Giuliani? |
|
Edited on Sat Oct-02-04 03:16 PM by Jack_Dawson
I've really lost respect for both these chumps. They've been reduced to partisan hacks, like Karen Hughes. Actually I think Giuliani is worse.

He's been victimized and accepted it. Giuliani has simply cashed in. They both want 2008 so they'll do anything to be there.

The way they treated him during the Republican primaries in 2000, he should have sat this one out. Giuliani is just a carrion vulture, picking up leftovers.

Giuliani is and always has been an opportunist but there's something particularly disgusting about McCain's conversion.

10. I agree -- Giuliani probably would sell his grandmother |

for the value of her corneas, but I always thought that about him. He's a true blue Republican.
McCain is broken, somehow. I'm beginning to agree with some others here on DU who think either he's been threatened by the BFEE or they already know where he has a body of some kind or other buried. Typical Republicans hold a grudge -- some of them, for their entire lives. That he didn't hold one, as vicious as Bush* was to him in South Carolina back in 2K means there's something gone horribly missing in McCain.

He is just an opportunist as best I can tell. He was a moderate when it suited him, he is a right wing extremist now that he thinks 9/11 and the Bush administration are the bandwagon to jump on.
McCain has on occasion shown the ability to have something resembling principles. I think Guiliani elected to be a hack, I think McCain just doesnt know better.

6. But McCain of all people should know better... |
|
I thought that's what set him apart...that he was an independent thinker? I respect Joe Scarborough about 1,000 times more than either of these guys, because he at least called the debate like he saw it - instead of towing the party line. It really is disappointing that nobody has any principles left.

11. No, the problem is that people thought he was something he was not. |
|
McCain was never really an independent thinker. McCain managed to think a little independently on a few issues. But once he started doing things differently, he was rewarded by becoming one of the most popular politicians in the country, so he kept up that appearance. But with the republican party as it is, he can only be so maverick before he gets booted. He has always done things that have been politically rewarding for him.

and that fellows approach of making little things "more civil" will cause folks to demand - and get via peer pressure - a better town.
9/11 was an undeserved image booster - the same that Bush got.
Giuliani has no achievements and sucks as a role model - hell I think that qualifies him to be the next GOP/Media sweetheart!

Hard to tell much difference really. The only thing that might swing this in "favor" of Giuliani is that he too often plays the 9/11 pity card for his own political advantage. It's rather disgusting.
Giuliani also flat out lied when speaking with Jon Stewart after the debate. Thankfully Stewart, as a comedian, actually has some journalistic integrity and wouldn't let him get away with it.

He tries to portray himself as a tough guy - but he was way overrated as a prosecutor. He can't kick a duck in the ass unless he stands on a brick, and even then, more than half the time, he'll miss.

15. John McCain has sold out his own soul. |
|
The way Rove smeared him in the 2000 South Carolina Primary should've pushed him well beyond the point of no return with Bush. That McCain is standing so steadfastly behind Bush now shows that he'll do damn near anything to have a shot at the Presidency, even if it compromises his honor and integrity. It would have been far better for him to remain silent and avoid expressing his preference for either Bush or Kerry, and leave people wondering what his true views and intentions were. He looks pathetic and desperate supporting Dubya -- especially when Jeb is probably going to get the next crack at the Presidency in 2008 whether his brother wins or loses.
I agree that Giuliani is just in this for the money. September 11 was like the jackpot for him, and he's been riding it ever since.

Was a well known item in New York as being a nasty son of a bitch, abusive to city employees, cutting benefits. He was most abusive to the very people who risked and lost their lives on 9/11. He cut the police and fire departments number of employees, cut their budgets, over worked them, refused to give raises to people who didnt earn enough money to even live in the city that they risked their lives to defend. New York City Firemen made something in the area of 400 dollars a week at the time of September 11th, and even during the period after September 11th Guiliani was fighting their unions in order to not give these people raises. Guiliani was NEVER a nice guy, ad all of the talk after 9/11 about the brave first responsders who risked and gave their loves was pretty much political bullshit that Guiliani was using to shine up his political image. It was sort of the version of the little certificates that conservative emp[loyers give you at work for a job well done in order to avoid giving you anything substantial, like a raise. Guiliani is really scum of the lowest order. It is claimed that he brought New York City back, but he did so on the backs of many workers and long time employees of the city. One of his last attempts, to end rent control in oder to turn New York City into the playground of the mega rich was the most obnoxious, elitist act on record.

is much worse. He is nothing more than a pundit for the right wing. I saw him spin after the debate and it was ridiculous. He was a not-so-popular mayor of NYC until 9-11. Without 9-11 no one would pay attention to him. Before 9-11 he only made news when his grandson misbehaved or he had some legal proceeding about his divorce. He is a shrill!
McCain although I do not like his conservative views has a bit a respect from me because he is willing to question his party a bit.

Giuliani is a lying, disgusting sack of shit who would say anything to continue to curry favor and cling to the acclaim he won for his actions on 9/11 (which were, I believe, truly heartfelt).
McCain's support for Bush amazes and disgusts me not because of the insults he personally bore in 2000, but because of the insults made against his FAMILY. If someone ever dared talk about my family the way Bush and his evil scumbag disgusting bastard asshole cronies did, I would spit in their faces and NEVER EVER EVER forgive them, much less stand up on stage and HUG him. BLECH! How can he look at his wife and daughter in the face after the things Bush and co. said about them? (insane drunk wife, illegitimate love-child daughter?)

Doesn't anybody give any credence to David Corn's semi-whimsical theory that McCain is staying close to Bush to subtly knife him and get some Refrigerated Revenge?
Not saying that I do, but I find myself seriouisly considering it more and more...
