Kudos to all DU members
I have only been active here for a few months (I dont post much) but thought I would rely a story about how "our" activity is perceived by others. Well make that perceived by my girlfriend... she qualifies as "an other" *grin.

She is used to me laughing hysterically one moment then yelling at the computer the next. The curse of being a software geek I guess. Anyway, she ask about why all the "passion" lately and I started telling her about some of the "activities" members of DU had been doing. Things like participating in on-line polls, sending letters to media editors, trying to save the Crawford newspaper, supporting CBS, poking fun at freepers, etc...

Her reply, which is what I wanted to relate to all of you out there was this...

"That is so vital, what you and all of those people are doing. It sounds like you all are a force to be reckoned with which is something that is so very needed in this political climate."

She has the URL and has stated telling all her politically active friends about us. so they can join as well.

So DUers...where ever you are... Just a note of thanks and to let you know that people without "handles" are starting to notice our conviction to this cause....

Lets keep up the fight even after the Nov election.....

Peace,
MZr7

2. WE must keep up the fight after the election
Even with Kerry as president, the country has slipped too far to the right. It took the right 30 years to effectively wage war on America as we know it today...it won't be handled overnight. Workers rights need to be restored in Right to Work states. Women's and children's rights need to be protected. We must redevelope a viable safety net for the poor. We must demand that people stop being imprisoned for victimless crimes such as marijuana use. We must return UNIONS to the workplace and rebalance trade.

4. The damage the Bush administration has done
in four years will take about 20 years to repair. Besides that, we already had severe problems (environmental, educational, etc) that need our best efforts to turn around. Electing Kerry is simply the first step in the correct direction.

5. And we must do all we can to defuse the
right-wing propaganda media system they have established. Either by establishing our own media system and/or by helping to bring the right-wing dirty media tricks out into the light.

7. Ha-Cha-Cha! Thanks for this! And welcome to you AND your girlfriend.
Lot of great energy and ideas here, and I'm just glad to see that a lot of it is actually being harnessed.

Your lady is correct. Our activism IS INDEED vital.

8. Great Comments...
I agree... I have found more relevant information from those that use this site than anywhere on the net. I use it to keep myself informed and to rebut false statements of others (mostly my own RW Family members).

I have been able to refute emails that my Family has sent to me showing how "evil" Kerry is. I have gotten links to sites that really have helped me in understanding the issues.

Welcome to the D.U. and I look forward to reading more of your posts... :-)

10. Hey, MazeRat!! Welcome, and keep posting!
:hi: :hi: :hi: :hi: :hi: :hi: :hi: :hi: :hi:

Thanks for relaying such a neat story. :toast:

I want to enlarge on something that you said: You said your girlfriend is impressed with the "Activity" here. That's a really important part to remember. Politics is hard, and demands much. We all need to blow off steam, and gripe and share news.

BUT.. the keyword is ACTIVE. There are so many issues posted here which call for ACTION, not just expressing our outrage.

One DUer quite some time ago posted that he had pledged to himself to spend 15 minutes everyday writng letters, making phone calls, etc. 15 minutes is something we can ALL do. Thanks to calimary, we know that 1-800-839-5276 is the number we can call to reach any congresscritter about any issue. We need to USE that number liberally. I don't hesitate to give it out here publicaly, because it isn't giving the RWers any new ideas....... they ALREADY use that number, all the time, and that's how they've gotten the power they have. We can't afford to surrender that turf to them!

*THAT* is the sort of "conviction" as your girlfriend so well stated, that gets people's attention, and not only pushes our leaders, but shows other people that yes, the Dems DO stand for something, have awakened, and can be counted on to get behind the issues. THAT'S how to mobilize others who haven't been involved.

Be the good example you want others to follow.

As Ghandi said, "Be the change you want to see in the world."

We can do this.

1-800-839-5276!!!

Dialing For Democracy!

14. Active is the watch-word
I could not agree more. To be quite honest, I can blow off steam and get a dose of progressive media without every visiting this site. However, I can not enlist others to help when there is a cause that motivates me. I think that is the real value. Like minds, like convictions, that are WILLING to help on a moments notice.

I have two "projects" now that I really want to see "work out". Not sure if they will, but you know what... there are a lot of folks willing to help. Or to borrow a phrase from John Kerry... when I came to DU I realized that "help was on the way".... (yeah yeah I know its corney... but I could not resist).

Thanks again everyone....
