Cellphone and remote microphones were "jammed" before/during debate? |
|
Edited on Sat Oct-02-04 07:18 PM by SoCalDem
I looked here, and did not see this.. On my way home today, I heard on 90.7 FM (here in LA area) someone who was discussing the debates. I got in after it started, so I don't know who the guy was,but anyway...
He was saying that in the few days before the debates, they were all yakking it up on their cell phones, and paging each other and using personal microphones to stay in contact..BUT... about an hour before the debate, NO ONE COULD GET ANY signal for ANY device..
They asked, and got  for an answer..
I wonder if the * earpiece required that all other signals be blocked...
When I got home, I tried to listen to the rest of the segment, but I cannot find the manual for my new stereo, and could not figure out how to change the stations:dunce:
I would really hate to think that he was being coached, considering the dismal performance he gave, but.....
It would explain ONE thing.. The "answers" were no more than 2 minutes long, and by the time someone (Karen??) fed him the answers, his time would have been pretty much..up..

1. It was probably an anti-terrorist thing. |
|
But I DO wonder if that affected Bush's earpiece.

3. My mom didn't even know of the ear piece issue |
|
The minute Bush started talking, she asked me," what is he listening to,what's wrong with his head,it keeps bouncing back and forth."
I didn't notice.

15. That's it exactly. This is pretty standard stuff. |
|
Cell phone detonators have been used in bombs before, so the SS jams all of the frequencies used by cellphones before any appearance of the president. This has been SOP since the mid-90's.

16. and by jamming, they avoid anyone picking up THEIR tranmissions |
|
That's why I wondered about the earpiece .. If someone (Karen??) was sending him tips, no one could "accidentally" hear and record it.:)

2. there are devices that jam cellphones for short distances |
|
I think I have heard of them used in places like theaters where managers don't want cell phones ringing and distracting from the performance.

I don't believe it's anything that elaborate or conspiratorial...just off-the-shelf technology.

7. They do not have to jam. |
|
Just shut down the cells that service the area. Very easy to do, if you are the Secret Service.

8. Could they allow signals to an earpiece for him, alone |
|
or would ALL transmissions stop?? They have devices that THEY need to be able to use..

communications were not interrupted. They simply would not allow that. As for his earpiece, that is another matter.
edit to add that is only my opinion, I have no way of really knowing.

10. y'know, my take on this |
|
skip if you don't have your tinfoil hat on...
they could beam voices to * and there would be no way we would know. medical technology is certainly devoloped enough that they could implant a radio reciever under the skin, to feed a cochlear(sp?) implant inside his ear, they would not be stupid enough to use a radio frequency that could be eavesdropped on, they would build special equipment that would use a special frequency, or some encrypted digital technology. so what if it costs a billion dollars, the neocon agenda is at stake.
remove tinfoil.

13. Nope, because they were limited to 2 minutes.. By the time he |
|
"listened", and regurgitated it, there was no way he could understand what she was saying for the next part.. Maybe that was why he was so hesitant..
and if she was talking to him while Kerry was speaking, he would have missed what Kerry said, so he could not respond well..
