Is it true that George W. Bush toured a lot of hurricane sites on the
day of the debate?

That is how the rightwing pundits are excusing his debate performance, touring so many hurricane sites made him tired.

1. Well even if he did, whose fault is that?
He's had lots of time to tour hurricane sites. Goodness knows there have been plenty of them. He didn't have to pick that particular day.

2. Oh, yes! He was telling all the Floridians that
he knew that "citrus" was important to the economy of Florida and he was gonna help. I don't know how many places he visited, but he was in Lake Wales which is south of Orlando.

5. I read on DU that he visited the Orange
Groves but not the people..I kid you not..might be worth investigating..cause when have they ever told the truth about anything?

7. they showed pictures
of him hugging people no citrus trees in sight?

So--he probably took advantage of the photo-op and worked for a few hours. I don't feel sorry for him that he had to work for a few hours--big deal.

12. Sorry, guess I missed that one..
I just remember some people were complaining because he had just gone to the "groves". I thought it was strange..

Anyway..no matter..If Kerry had gone to meet the People in Florida the day of the "debate" he still would have been on his game.

Whatever nixon's excuse for not looking good for the debate..didn't matter, either..it left an impression on National TV.

14. he could have gone
to the groves--but they wouldn't be very photogenic now would they? The pics I saw had him in front of a semi-wrecked shack hugging people, and walking through debris with a stupid hardhat on, and standing beside a car chatting to adoring people. What a hard days work. And I mean hard work. It really looked like hard work. You know what I mean--hard work?

10. How was he going to help with their citrus?
Buy make believe citrus?

Pretend that he was drinking citrus during the debate and make more people drink it?

4. yes--he did visit
a lot of sites that day---so what? Boo hoo. I work a full day all the time. They are claiming it is "emotionally draining" to deal with the hurricaine victims? Once again--if he can't do the job--step aside and let Kerry do it.

8. Bullshit..I don't think he visited a lot of sites (source, whitehouse.gov)
I think he flew over some damaged areas in his helocopter (like he did after Frances) and then he went to ONE shelter, and the White House released his statement by 10:36 AM that morning.

He's lying. AGAIN.

13. Yes he toured, not help with the clean up
no picking up debris or shoveling mud and water out of people's homes, he walked around and it plum tuckered him out.

17. I figured that was going to be one of their responses
Well, if it wiped him out, then it shows 1)he's so cocky, he didn't think he had to prepare, and 2)he shows poor judgment.

Bush did look tired; however, John Kerry DID have the sense to rest up and have his nails professionally done. If I'm not mistaken, Bush cuts his nails with a pocket knife - and WHO in the world does his hair??

I'm sorry. When a person reaches a certain level of importance, it is time to take whatever time, trouble and expense necessary to look worthy of their station in life. Call me a snob it you like.

22. Personally, I don't think Bush's nails had a lot to do with it
Nor his hair, nor his tan.

I don't think being tired had a lot to do with it either. The fact is that he acted like a spoiled child, which doesn't surprise me, considering he's a prep-school cheerleader who "swaggers" around with his fake texas accent pretending to be a man (I'd challenge that cardboard cowboy to a horserace any time; I bet that connecticut pansy can't even put on a bridle).

The fact is, he has no record to run on, but he doesn't realize this, because he's constantly surrounded by his adoring fans. He couldn't believe that anyone could have the audacity to criticize his administration's policies, and all he could do was sit there with his pitiful little monkey grimace, blinking in utter stupor, whining about what "hard work" being president is.

Yeah, it's so hard that you've spent 40% of your time on vacation, right, Emperor Bunnypants???

Come on up to the mountains of Tennessee, away from your pretty little Crawford movie set, and I'll show you some real hard work. And let me tell you where to stick that pocketknife.

Welcome to DU, Twinkie. :toast:

20. It is true....
...here in Florida, there aren't too many places that aren't 'hurricane sites'. He did travel through for a while, but meanwhile, Kerry was doing his usual stumping as well. So why wasn't Kerry as 'tired'? Because Kerry is more Professional. Kerry is more prepared, and most of all Kerry is more PRESIDENTIAL.

23. What?
This is just idiotic. He is the President, for God's sake. He has people who manage his schedule.

But maybe that is why they couldn't come up with a plan for the peace, they can't even plan his day.

25. There ya go...
Thats the rhetorical questions we HAVE to be CONSTANTLY asking ANYONE who supports Bush. This is how they keep gaining people - by asking the absurd. And the funny thing is, we can use valid points, like this - where they pull shit out of their ass that just barely makes sense (usually only because of some weird perversion of religious doctrine). Statements like these need to be made to that guy at the office that spouts his mouth about how great Bush is all day.

Now he can't even debate without his nannies coming up with excuses for him.

27. A typical Bush* performance
Whatever is happening, he never lets it interfere with his photo op schedule. Not the day of the debate, not on 9/11. Some might call that being on message. I call it being a miserable failure.
