1. Because...
Separation of church and state is becoming more of a myth every day.

2. you misunderstand the constitution
"seperation of church and state" means the government should have no power on interferring with the church taking over the government.

"the government should have no power on interferring with the church taking over the government."

So...the government (i.e., the people) should not interfere with the church (which not everyone may belong to or believe in) taking over the government (again, the people)?

That is completely and totally fucking stupid.

Edit: i just realized that you may have been being sarcastic...please tell me you were!

Edit #2: OK, you were definitely being sarcastic...forgive me! I'm such a dumbass sometimes.

6. actually, That IS what the constitution means by "seperation of...
Church and state".

It was ment to keep the government from controling the church (as it had done in England and many other countrys for many years. It lead to corruption of the church and the state, also many who came here on the Mayflower were fleeing persecution in other countrys because they wanted to worship as they chose to.not the state approved religion.

7. Sorry, but "keep[ing] the govt. from controling the church" is COMPLETELY
different from "the church taking over the government."

But you knew that.

9. But that is what "seperation of church and state means" and
The Church will not take over the government. For one thing, What church? Baptist? Methodist? etc etc etc?

The church's cant even agree totally on doctrin. The pledge including "under God", Student led prayer, manger or cross on public property and abortion etc are all issues.Everyone wants there issues to "win". I may not agree with all these or anyones "issues" but everyone has the right to fight for them.

10. Forget about the Inquisition and the Crusades?
The church passing rules about killing heretics on Sunday? That is the church taking over the government. But you knew that didn't you?

11. Are you kidding? This is NOT the middle ages
But you know that didn't you? So called Christians killing unbelivers in the 21st century? Never happen.

You are standing the constitution on it's head. The church CANT take over the state and i hope you aren't saying the government shoud take over the church. THat is when freedom will die becouse the state wont stop with the church.

15. Well, lemme ask you this: do you feel that the religious right has
pretty much taken over the Republican Party?

Wait, wait, I have a followup question!

Do you agree that the Republicans control all 3 branches of government?

Now...you were saying?

17. The right has some power in the GOP because they are
The GOP base and the repubs can't win without them and yes the Pubs control all three branches, but That is hardly the same as the church controling the state. They are fighting for there issues like we fight for ours, and elections are won and lost.Today the GOP has control but in Nove they may well lose the Exectutive branch.Does that mean the government will then control the church? It's all just fighting for Ideas and values IMO.

19. No, when we win in November that means the church no longer
controls the government (or at least the Executive branch...I'm hoping we win the Legislative, and eventually the Judicial).

Just because you DON'T have one thing doesn't mean you AUTOMATICALLY get the other.

But you knew that, right?
