Anyone see The McLaughlin Group?
It comes on in my area at 10:30 Sunday mornings on PBS. Great show. Tony Blankley and Pat Buchanan are the perment "right" panel members, and Eleanor and (I forget his name) are the left panel members.

All four agreed that Kerry won the debate. But Pat and Tony aren't sure that'll translate into poll numbers.

Whatshisname on the left continues to predict a Kerry win (and he's not a far-lefter by any stretch). He predicts Kerry will win all three debates.

Eleanor predicts Edwards will win the VP debate on Tuesday. (I think she's wrong about that one.)

McLaughlin showed some new polls. One was good for Kerry....group asked pre-debate which of the candidates had better plan for Iraq. Pre-debate: Kerry 14%, Bush 30% or something. Post-debate: Kerry 52%, Bush 39%. Kerry obviously convinced a number of people on that point. BUT...another group (uncommitted) was asked who they had more confidence in to handle Iraq....Bush still had a big advantage (I think it was Bush over 50%, Kerry about 39%??? An improvement from before the debate, but still, Bush came out ahead on that one.)

The guy on the left further opined that what went wrong with Bush was precisely what Pat Buchanan had said: Bush has not been challenged with hard questions by the press, and has surrounded himself with yes people more so than other presidents, that he only speaks to crowds given tickets to enter, and that he only speaks to crowds who cheer at what he says...he goes unchallenged. So he was at a loss of what to do when faced with some challenges and hard questions. He just kept repeating the Republican talking points.

1. Lawrence O'Donnell is the name you're looking for.
And Eleanor Clift.

Yes, I saw the show and for a change, it was amusing to see Tony Blankley really, really reaching to say ANYTHING good about the Smirklet's performance in the debate.

9. Lawrence O'Donnell. Don't know why I can't remember his name.
Eleanor Clift. Don't know why I can't ever remember her last name. She's on the show every week. O'Donnell comes and goes.

Thanks.

8. Because all of us Democrats acknowledge that Edwards
will lose that one.

Haven't you been reading the other posts? ;-)

15. Ha! Well, personally, I think Edwards will do just fine!
Edwards is brilliant and hasn't been bunkered away for four years. Cheney is a glorified CEO. An acrid tongued conservative spouting off gilded age economic rhetoric. Edwards should be able to dismantle him piece by ugly piece.

3. Lawrence O'Donnell

He is so much better than that Mort Zuckerman guy, who
is just another Bush lover.

5. Zuckerman Is A Good Guy, Blinded By Israel....
He can't think straight about the war because of it. He's smart on economic issues, but O'Donnell really came out of his chair to challenge Buchanan about lying to make the troops feel better about what they're doing. It's never ok to do that when lives are being lost...

7. Thanks for the explanation.

It always confused me to have this pro-war guy sitting
over on the left with Eleanor.

:hi:

11. Yes, he did. That's what democracy is all about, exactly what
the troops are supposedly fighting FOR. That's how we got the Vietnam War ended before more lives were lost, before more legs were blown off.

17. Zuckerman is an asshole for precisely that reason.
His unwavering cheerleading for Blinky and his crew of pirates is both distasteful and perverse.

10. You got that right. When Mort's on, it's like having 3 of the panel on
the right, with just Eleanor holding up the left.

I think it's that he supports Bush's strong pro-Israel stance.

6. One of them said the American people will not see heir president lose 3
debates and still vote for him. Sooooo, I guess that means the Republicans will spin Bush winning the next two even if he smirks and carries on like he did before and says foolish things.

12. O'Donnell said that. And he's right. (But it's unlikely that any ONE
candidate would win ALL THREE debates, anyway. I wish. Guess we'll see, huh?)

19. Kerry can win all three..
but the Right Wing Media won't admit that. The Media needs the Neo Fascists to stay in power so that the Media conglomerates won't be busted up.

He just puts it into Buchanan's and Blankely's faces every show.
