Why Are Republicans SO SCARED To Be Citizens of the WORLD?
They honestly seem terrified at the thought that you are not just an american, but a citizen of the world. That you have to work with other nations to every achieve anything of real significance, and if other nations disagree with you that does not make them the enemy.

Republicans only love foreigners (or 'furners' as W might say) when they agree with us.

I think it's a huge difference between 'us' and 'them'. We (or at least I hope we all do) love differences, diversity and respectful dissent here at home and around the globe, and we value the true fraternity among nations that has helped build the image of america as the beacon of freedom and justice around the globe.

Of course America is great, we know that, but you can admit that while at the same time not acting like an arrogant, reckless, and ignorant super power, and coming to the world table as an equal amongst equals, it's the only way we will ever solve the litany of problems facing this world, and Republicans seem to despise the very thought of it.

If "they" get "theirs," then there won't be enough for ME.

Rights, water, oil, power, culture, you name it.

5. It's similar to their support for the we can do it alone ideas.
Those who believe We are the biggest baddest guy on the block all think that way. Of course, we all know what usually happens to bullies.

6. They cannot control the world.
They know it. The ambitions of their base, the Christian Right, is to establish their perverted Taliban-like state here, ruled by Sharia-like laws. They know that this will not play in the rest of the world, so they are de facto isolationists.

8. Why are they so scared to be citizens of AMERICA?
The current crop, at least, is just unable to grasp the the full breadth and depth of our country. Our strength, to them, is something to be feared and hated and combatted and destroyed. There's nothing more un-American than a radical Republican.

10. Most of them have never even been out of the *county* of their birth
much less been to another country. I've heard that Georgie didn't even have a passport until he was almost 30.

Folks are scared of what they don't understand. Heck, if most of 'em were to go to France, they'd fall in love with the place.

11. Because then they wouldn't be able to control the outcome.
They can't stand the idea of "equality" with equal voting rights and equal standing for opinions.

They think only their views are the right ones, and anything else they shouldn't be forced to do, no matter what the majority thinks.

They are at their core - anti-democratic.

12. All of the above
plus a bit of racism, I think. I'll use my mother as an example. She was born in 1936 and remembers carrying a sign in some parade that said "Save cans and tie a knot in Hitler's tail" - whatever that means. She was raised to believe everything America does is noble and good. Everyone around her was white, except for two families whose children she still talks about with a negative bias.

Then she met my dad, who introduced her to the Mormon church, which is kind of based on the idea that America is special. The Book of Mormon is the story of people who supposedly lived in North America and Jesus visited after his resurrection.

I don't think my mother has ever questioned anything she was taught. She's never been outside the country and, as far as I know, has never met anyone from another country who still lives in that country and would offer her any kind of outside perspective. Her primary sources of information are Fox News and The Deseret News.

So there you go.

13. 2 B a world citizen
one needs 2 B adaptable, willing 2 embrace change. U also need critical thinking skills cuz different problems/weather/topography plagued every region. One solution will not work 4 all - which means there is no central control.

14. Negotiating is "hard work"
As citizens of the world they would not be able to act immaturely and impulsively. These people in their own families do not discuss; they mandate. It's a lot easier that way. If you are a citizen of the world you need to take responsibility for how your actions will affect the world of nations. And like rebellious children they don't want to have to answer to anyone.

16. Simple
Being a citizen of the world 1) does not include raping and pilliaging the world's resources and 2)does not allow for Christianity to have hegemony.

18. So you would consider Japan to be citizens of the world knowing that?
I can really think of few nations that could be called good citizens of the world. Some are better than others. But the United States is among the worst.

at least not any more than any other industrialized country is. (World War II was a different story--I'm talking about now.)

22. They can't cope with diversity at home, we surely can't expect them to
deal with an entire world of possibilities. These people see everything as either right (their way) or wrong (anyone elses way) and they are deathly afraid of outside influence of any kind. They can't cope with just letting other people believe in other religion or no-religion. They think that asking them to let others live as they want is persecution of wingers.

They can't cope with sexualities different from their own, or taste in music, or education, or any kind of belief system whatsoever. They don't see these as merely different, but as an actual and deadly challenge to everything they hold dear. The world at large is an even more dangerous place to them than their neighbors down the street.

The more important question for me is why are they that way, and it's one I don't have an answer for.

if they rely on other nations to protect us then we would be in danger. They just don't want to put out defense in others hands. I disagree. I think good things could come of unity in the world.

25. They want their followers to remain ignorant of the world
One of my fellow translators in Tokyo last week observed that among the people he knows, the ones with the most international experience are the most liberal, and the ones who are the most conservative have rarely been out of their own area.

The Republicans know that their claims don't stand up to scrutiny, and they know that if their followers ever acquired any firsthand knowledge about how the rest of the world works, they wouldn't be Republicans anymore.
