Tom Brokaw and Peter Jennings defend Dan Rather.
"There's a political jihad against Dan Rather and CBS," said NBC's Brokaw,

ABC anchor Jennings broke in to say, "You never judge a man by one event in his career," applause erupted. Jennings, who joined ABC in 1964, added, "I think the attack on CBS is an attack on mainstream media, an attack on the so-called 'liberal media.' To me, when you make a mistake, you apologize. You go back and review your standards."

2. This will be on C-SPAN again, I'm sure.
They showed it earlier and I missed it. They replay these things throughout the day. I can't wait to see it!

9. It comes on again
in about 5 minutes. C-Span is having a banner day. I caught the replay of Politics and the 2004 Election (Southern Methodist University) with Bob Dole and Al Gore. Now those are REAL leaders and statesmen. The contrast with the neocons currently in the WH is stunning.

10. I watched it and Dan Rather got huge support from the crowd
during the Q&A with the audience a woman came to the mike with a copy of Dan Rather's book about the news business and reporting from a long time ago ans she said that he'd been her coach through out her career and that he should open his own book and read the chapter called: Don't let those bastards get you down, or something close to that. He actually teared up a little, it was a nice moment. And Jennings and Brokaw circled the wagons for Dan, it was great.

7. I know what you mean about the foxnews guy
Fox made a huge blunder in giving those false kerry quotes and yet the media has made little of the story. Of course, the fox guy is a nobody while rather is a big fish.

11. Peter Jennings used to be the man
for me about 20 years ago. I guess I'm getting more liberal as time goes by, because he has irritated me no end throughout much of the conversation. During the Q&A about the Swift Boat ads, he sidestepped the broad frame of the question and defended himself instead of addressing the issue. He does this over and over. Dan stepped up to take on the question properly, as he did often during the program. Go, Dan. I knew Tom Brokaw was going to be annoying to me, but jeez.

12. These statements should have been said weeks ago
The attacks continues even after Dan Rather's apology, and Brokaw and Jennings were silent, until long after the damage was done. Fuck both of them.
