6. Here
DEBATE MYSTERY: DID KERRY HAVE CHEAT SHEET?

Section 5, pages 4-5 of the binding "Memorandum of Understanding" that was negotiated and agreed upon by both political campaigns states:

"No props, notes, charts, diagrams, or other writings or other tangible things may be brought into the debate by either candidate.... Each candidate must submit to the staff of the Commission prior to the debate all such paper and any pens or pencils with which a candidate may wish to take notes during the debate, and the staff or commission will place such paper, pens and pencils on the podium..."

So what did Dem presidential contender John Kerry take out of his jacket as he approached the stage ?

What did Kerry place on the podium?

11. Why would Kerry have to cheat? He just answered questions he has
answered before. Its not like Lehrer threw him a curve.

Bottom line: Kerry answered the questions asked to him and bu*h fumbled on his questions and responses.

These peole are desperate and they KNOW that their boy fucked up and is now trailing Kerry after that debate.

12. I Am Suspicious
Even though it appears Kerry did pull something out of his jacket. The film could well have been doctored. I clearly remember Kerry taking notes during the debate, and when Kerry walked up it doesn't appear there is paper there.

Furthermore, the rules state that if a candidate does use notes, the moderator is supposed to remind him that per the agreement, the notes were not allowed. The agreement also stated the cameras were only supposed to be focused on the person speaking and we all know what happened with THAT.

Also, neither campaign can use film or audio footage from the debate in any way.

And hey, we could make an issue of almost everytime Kerry responded to Bush, Bush asked for an extra thirty seconds, whereas Kerry rarely asked for the thirty second follow up. At least one time Jim Lehrer skipped giving Kerry his 30 seconds after Bush had his. I mean, if you want to get nit-picky...

17. They didn't put Kerry's prescribed paper or pen on the lecturn
Edited on Sun Oct-03-04 02:46 PM by Cronus
So, of course, he just might have taken some paper or a pen from his pocket. Shows inititiative if you ask me.

13. Well people said it would get real ugly from here on out,
so I guess here we go. Hope Kerry campaign is better prepared for this smear than they were for the last.

None of those questions were that hard or unexpected. Bush was just sorry. Kerry didn't do it to him, it was no one else's fault, he just sucked. It was his own smirkiness that got him, as much as the incoherence of his answers. All he had to do was keep a halfway pleasant expression on his face, not that hard.

21. What a pathetic argument!
There weren't any trick questions asked in that debate---it's not like Lehrer asked Bush* what the capital of Tajikistan is. The bottom line is Kerry was prepared and articulate, Bush* was totally out of his league. I guess he was tired from all the "hard work" of posing for a photo op in front of hurricane debris.

27. This will blow up in their faces if they push this
It looks to me like he pulled a pen out of his suit coat and pulled the top off it when he got to the podium.

For one thing, many people keep pens with them, and he probably just pulled it out because of habit, not because of he wanted to break any rules. One of his aides probably forgot to frisk him before he went out on stage to make sure he didn't have any dangerous pens on him.

For another, if the Republicans really wanted to make a big stink about it, the Democrats could point out that Bush interrupted Kerry to interject the statement about keeping his daughters on a leash.

Which rule violation is easier to prove?
