A Question about Rush Limbaugh
I have a question for anybody who listens to Limbaugh's show. Can you hear the voice of "Mr. Snerdly?" I only read transcripts of the show and it doesn't appear that whatever "Mr. Snerdly" says can actually be heard - it is never transcribed, at least. Can somebody confirm this? I am writing a piece referencing his show and I need to know.

1. I've listened off and on and I don't ever recall hearing him
Rush has had several of them over the years, including-I believe-at least one woman.

2. Probably Bogus

Rush probably made him up. He is never heard on air. I have heard that Limbaugh has a staff of people standing by, to search the Web and other references, to attempt to refute or smear any liberal that calls in.

I don't think Rush has any friends - other than the local Hillbilly Heroin dealer, who probably likes the Vulgar Pigboy's money a whole lot!!!!

3. I've heard a voice a couple of times

That was long ago. I think pretending there is a conversation is another one of Limbaugh's Nazi persuasion techniques. Its well established that people are more likely to believe something if they overhear it. Bo Snerdly is a device Limbaugh uses to address doubts he thinks his listeners might have.

5. I've also heard him mention a woman named "Dawn"
Also probably just a figment of his coked-out head.

7. "Snerdley"
Edited on Sun Oct-03-04 05:05 PM by Wright Patman
at one time was an African-American male with the first name of James. I forget his last name. He got his own talk show, but it didn't last very long. Fortunately, I have not heard an entire Limbaugh program in at least seven or eight years.

I do remember accidentally tuning in and hearing how weird he sounded a few years ago when he lost his hearing due to the abuse of the pain-killers.

Here is a DU thread I found. His name is James Golden.

8. Nah,never heard it...just referenced all the time..
But that doesn't mean he isn't there. Most radio people have an "engineer" who will roll tape and do other things. I don't know if Malloy has Kathy do that for him.

9. I think he's the show's producer
They're the ones who run the board, screen the calls, and cue up sound effects. Often on any talk show, you'll hear a background voice. That person is usually the one running things behind the scenes.

I rarely listen to el Rushbo, but I have heard the Snerdley reference, and always assumed it was his producer.

10. Limblaughhh
I believe Snerdley is a "stereotypical geek" character Mr. Limbaugh created back in his pre-reactionary DJ days. His on-air name used to be Jeff Christie, and he used to spin only the most banal 70's disco hits back in those days!

11. i have heard him refer to snerdley as the program observer.
Edited on Sun Oct-03-04 05:39 PM by SheepyMcSheepster
and that his voice can't be heard on air do to some contractual thing, like they would have to pay him or something. i don't know if this whole thing is a gimmick or what.

edit: found this:

"During the time that Rush is alleged to have made most of these quotes, Rush's call screener was James Golden. He was also the producer of Rush's TV show. As call screener, James Golden controled access to Rush, rejecting those callers he did not feel were interesting enough. Rush would often have on the air conversations with Mr. Golden, who was always refered to on the air as "Bo Snerdley." Mr. Golden also made an on-the-air appearance on Rush's TV show, during which he recited a satirical poem he wrote in honor of Bill Clinton becoming President.

As you may have guessed, James Golden is a conservative. There is also something you may not be aware of.

James Golden is black.

James Golden left Rush's show about three or four years ago to host his own talk show on an internet based talk radio network. (It failed. Not just Golden's show, but the whole network."

it would seem that the snerdley mentioned on air these days is not the original "snerdley" ???

Of course, I've never binged on Oxycontin and Vicodin.
