1951 film: "OUR CITIES MUST FIGHT!"
"Why flee when "the danger of lingering radiation is not really very serious. After an atomic airburst, the danger of radiation and falling debris is over within a minutes and a half."

This civil defense film admonishes U.S. city dwellers to stay and fight in case of enemy invasion, rather than evacuate. The roads must be kept open! Stay home and fight!

Hokay!

1. Granted, there were problems with execution, but

what the hell was wrong with the name Department of Civil Defense? It works for me and Homeland Security is either terribly hokie or Himmler should be in charge. ooops, I forgot...he's over at the DOD. Put Tom Ridge in lederhosen next time he gives an alert...at least a few people would pay some attention. "Springtime for Hitler" could be the theme song. "Duct and Cover" could be the motto.

3. Dept. of "Civil Defense" sounds more American than "Homeland Defense"
which smacks of "Hitler" doesn't it.

I know exactly what you mean. Everytime I hear "Homeland" or "Homeland Defense" I cringe and cringe....

And I know what those "Civil Defense Alerts" were...that's why I also know why "Homeland" bothers me. :scared:

4. Haha. I think I remember seeing that
among many civil defense films we were shown in school about how radiation wasn't that bad if you covered yourself right.
