He appeared on a New Yorker Magazine Panel on C-Span this afternoon (filmed earlier) with Dan Rather and Peter Jennings hosted by Ken Auletta (formerly of NY Magazine, Daily News & now NY'er contributor)

Brokaw freaked out when an audience member asked how the "Media" allowed the 527 Swift Boat anti-Kerry ads to run continuously without doing a disclaimer or saying on the news shows that they were "untruthful ads."

Brokaw immediately went into a tirade against "F9/11." Jennings and Rather didn't address Moore but sidestepped.

They didn't refute it, and neither did "moderator" Auletta..

If you suspect (or believe, as I do) MIHOP (or LIHOP) , then I say there's at least a 50/50 chance the media, or major players in the media, were "brought on board" to some extent. The reporting was all over the place on 9/11, but quickly became homogeneous.

Video clips of the planes hitting the WTC and the Pentagon disappeared, and the media went into overdrive pumping air into the inflatable image of gwb as savior, even though the real story is that he and his gang had failed miserably - at best.

I'm not surprised that Brokaw would resume the kneeling position on this. What he did, in essence, was dredge up 9/11 to deflect from the real question - the swift boat liars for bush, and the play the media gave them.

That is telling, isn't it?

Very familiar tactic from the bush gang - change the subject to 9/11 - and very telling that a so-called "score-keeper" would employ the same diversion.

15. I'm a LIHOP believer...I posted this because I thought folks would want to

know what Browkaw said on that panel...and that the others didn't get into Moore and 9/11, but Dan Rather did say..."we fell down on the job on reporting that." And Jennings said it was "McCain/Feingold" which left a loophole for the "527's."

Frankly, of the group there, Rather seemed the most believable. And looked uncomfortable sitting there with the others.

I was hoping someone else saw this discussion, because Ken Auletta just had an article in the New Yorker...at least I saw something in "Editorials Forum" here on DU a while back....:shrug:

I never thought Brokaw was more than a "shill" for Jack Welch (GE), but maybe he hangs out too much with the folks like Cheney in Wyoming at their ranches...of course Rather owns a Ranch with Rummy, they say, but maybe it's just one of those "business consortiums" and not personal. :eyes: But, are they all in it ....yeah...sadly they are it seems.

He said the Swiftboat attacks were equalized by Moore's film. First of all, I don't see how you equate a film with the boat people. The film is a documentary while the boat people attacked and their lies were exposed. Moore's "lies" keep being referred to but nobody, Brokaw included, is spelling out what he lied about.

To make matters worse, the modertor quickly moved on after the question was asked further burying the issue.

As for the program itself, many in the audience supported Rather which was good to hear, but the candor among all of them was lacking. I suspect that if they really told the truth or pushed the issues, they'd be wanting for jobs--at least Jennings and Rather would.

are NOT defense contractors. They are entertainment companies. Yes, they are no prize packages either, but still, GE gains ALOT from having NBC be soft on Bushler.

and it seems to me, having been through a few elections that there's always some group having a "Media" mea culpa panel around election time..before or after where they do a "FAKE" Examine the Media Show and it's broadcast on C-Span...but nothing ever comes of it.
