Do you think Kerry will advocate for Tibets freedom and |
|
official recognition of taiwan, and come out boldly that if China takes military or economic action against taiwan, he would not tolerate it. When Kerry becomes president I hope he does this.

1. And why would Kerry do |
|
such insane things?
He already has several messes to clean up. He's not about to create new ones.

3. And he is supposed to be pro-Tibet and Taiwan |
|
yet not mention the Basques, Northern Ireland, the Tamils and all the other internal upheavals and matters around the world....why?
He already has enough problems to clean up. Don't get him into a war with China.
Human and civil rights are being violated in almost every country.
You wanna fight the whole world?
Or could you just concentrate on the immediate quagmire?

4. I'm talking about a global perspective. |
|
I don't think we should take an isolationist approach. I believe in internationalism. I think the United States should work with other countries to lessen the proverty in the United States and around the world. I think the United States who is an advocate for civil liberties should work with other countries to stop the abuses in other countries.

And nobody asked the US to go around interfering in other people's countries.
China could have taken offense at the US invading Iraq. But it didn't start WWIII over it.
Do you want a nuclear war with China over those places?
The US shouldn't try to interfere with China and it's relations with either Tibet or Taiwan. That's up to China.
The US doesn't get to decide these things on it's own. It's only one country, and it already has enough problems because it went ahead on it's own.
That's what the UN is for...international matters.

I'm sure Kerry is sympathetic to the goal, but it would not become official stated policy, although he'd likely continue GW's policy of protecting Taiwan from Chinese invasion. He'd likely pressure China to respect human rights more in Tibet and in Xinjiang.
But I doubt he'd openly come out in favor of those things. Kerry is an internationalist, humanitarian at heart, but he works cautiously - he's not going to be prone to unilaterally breaking diplomatic tradition and causing great animosity with China because he wouldn't want to risk war with China or greater international estrangement.
Like I said, I think he'll push for both of these things behind closed doors, but he's not going to push publicly for them.

if he was open about these issue. In fact I agree with you, but over the years the US, along with many other countries have sold out Tibet for cheap goods manufactured in China. Also considering the situation in Iraq is so precarious and to put it mildly, fucked up, Kerry needs the help of as many contries as possible (including countries like China).
Still, it's pretty much goes unstated that the US would defend Taiwan in case of any invasion or threat. At the minimum, if any situation like this were to occur, the US would sell or donate military aid to Taiwan.
There are many issues that must be worked out with CHina. I especially believe that the US must address the problem China faces in regard to nuclear proliferation. NK technology came from Pakistan, which in turn originated in China. As you said, human rights is any major problem.

10. Taiwan--very doubtful. This is not |
|
part of the Democratic platform. Look at the Clinton policies--that is probably where Kerry will stand on Taiwan. Personally, I think that Bush has done a lot of things to hinder our relationship with China and I am looking for Kerry to get things back on the right track.
