We need to remember that Bush and his evil gang are an aberration,
so far as U.S. history goes.As their meltdown continues this week,it helps to recall that we have had other mean spirited men lead us,such as Nixon. With all his failings, Nixon should be credited with some intellectual underpinnings and a historic perspective such as his opening the door to China and his startup of the Environmental Protection Agency. In Bush, all one senses is a relentlessly idiotic mind deranged further by a mean spirit. This basic character flaw is further undermined by the presence of his adviser-sycophants like Rove, Rice, Rumsfeld and Cheney not to mention the hijacking of policymaking by the Christian Fundamentalists and the PNAC group thinkers.

After Kerry's performance last week, I feel optimistic once again. Our country is on a comeback trail and the endgame for Bush is near.I reached my moment of revulsion a long time ago.I hope all of America feels like I do before the next two weeks are out.

To Bush I say, "WE CAN"T MISS YOU UNLESS YOU GO AWAY".

1. aberrational history
I don't think Bush and Co. is that aberrant. From the founding of this country people like these have flourished on American soil--at different times, Americans have practiced slavery, genocide, ethnic cleansing, apartheid . . . In fact, Iraq is not the first war we've fought based on lies--that honor can be reserved for the Mexican-American War. Fortunately, America has also been a force for good--emancipation, WWII, United Nations, Marshall Plan . . .

2. Thank you.Sometimes one loses sight of one's past in an effort to
find the good in ourselves, a benefit that we resolutely refuse to extend to others.

3. Militant Christian Fascists are not going away!
Hey, I'm optimistic too, but not that optimistic. After Kerry wins, they will not just deflate. They will continue to infect the Republican party and any government bodies that they inhabit. They need to be weeded out, and this will take a lot of work. Let them go back underground; we need to infiltrate and destroy them. They are a cancer. Just look at what they have done over the course of a couple of decades.

6. Republicans now controlled by Falwellians, not Orwellians........
Edited on Mon Oct-04-04 06:30 AM by kokomo
The Rev. Jerry Falwell stated recently that evangelical Christians, after nearly 25 years of increasing political activism, now CONTROL the Republican Party and the fate of President Bush in the November election.

"The Republican Party does not have the head count to elect a president without the support of religious conservatives," Falwell said at an election training conference of the Christian Coalition.

4. NO, they are the tip of a systematic criminal rot...
that has penetrated every single aspect of government from the
white house to the courts, to the prison/police establishment.
The "wishful fluffy" optimist in me wishes what you say is true,
but it simply isn't. The denazification of america will take iron
balls, and must be done root and branch.

These neocriminals have been planning and executing their strategic
destruction of the republic since the 70's at the very least, and
to reverse the tide will take a similar period of long term strategic
restitution on behalf of decency and liberalism.

I might agree with you more, if they were being impeached and put on
trial for war crimes... but rather to lose an election, leaves them
chomping at the bit and no less empowered.

9. A hearty AMEN, sweetheart
Our enemy is fascism and it will not go quietly into that long goodnight. I am praying for the "rapture" so the world can rid itself of the RW crazy fundies. If they are the ones going to Heaven, then I would rather stay here. It will be such a much better place after they have left. Falwell is right....without the fundies we would have no fear of the Repugs.

This election is just one battle in the war for our country.

8. Boosh Regime NOT An Aberration
The Boosh regime, as novel as it may seem on the American scene, is NOT an aberration. The roots for their ideologies go well back into the 1800s, their corporatist philosophies go back to the days of William McKinley, and the Bush Leaguers have gleefully incorporated whole chapters for their playbook from the likes of Nixon, Atwater, Franco, Mexico's PRI, Europe's Falangist movements and other rascals.

This sort of organized reaction is NOT going away. We progressives need to get it through our heads now and keep that thought there. So do our apolitical and moderate friends who now see through the con of the "moderate" George W. Bush. The sort of organized reaction that produced Gee Dubya is going to be around for years and it will take a long, long time to defeat and discredit that ideology.
