how can w possibly make up for his shitty debate performance?
going in another direction, like being assertive and decisive and astute? that's impossible. getting real mad and in kerry's face? that won't do either. bush can't suddenly grow a brain or suddenly become a great speaker or debater, so what the hell can he do to recover from his total pants pissing last thursday?

6. Hahahaha!
Why did he say that?!?!?!? I mean, the first light wasn't even on, and nobody was interrupting him.

What a doofus!

2. Been wondering that my own self. His debating isn't fixable,
or they would have done that.

I'm afraid there's going to be some other solution........ diversion, etc.

Since my mind doesn't work in such devious ways as theirs, I haven't come up with any really clever ideas.

Wondering what the Kerry camp is anticipating......

Sure would like to be a fly on the wall!

4. Bring charts like Perot...
...and "unintentionally" mount them upside-down so they all trend upwards instead of down.
Freepers love pictures...won't touch a book without 'em.

5. Lowering expectation would be one of them
In may opinion, though, he didn't do a horrible performance. He finished all his sentences and so on.

He has a huge problem though: He is selling a much inferior product!

10. Yeah, mopaul, what do you want?
The man finished his sentences. Geez, what more do you expect from the president? I mean, it isn't like he actually has to talk with anyone, he's got Condi and Rummy to do that. Making him debate is not what America needs from our president. We just need someone who stands tall and knows the pain of having to work.

Being president is hard work. Evidently so is standing tall, that's why * leaned so heavily on the podium. See, he's doing just that, working hard at standing at the podium. Praise the Lord!

7. He could pony up about 3.5 million jobs.
Outside of that, his best bet is to start packing now.

8. They can..........
I'll bet Dick Chaney will be touting their "victory" in Samara or wherever it was tomorrow. See, silly democrats, we are winning. Whatever. I'll bet they will be making news right before the debates and trying to say, hey we've doing something about it.

9. He can't - it's over for him
People might not remember what Bush or Kerry said, but the physical image of both will be remembered. Kerry looked Presidential. Bush looked like he was coming off a bad hangover.

Bush is weak at domestic issues - no positive record to run on.

11. Another 9/11 or the invasion of another country would probably work to
sufficiently distract from that lousy performance.

12. I can't imagine * worse, soooo.....
As long as * can stand upright for at least the first five minutes of the debate, * will be declared the second coming, the return of Jehhhhhhsus, the undisputed winnah, etc.... then with Condi and Rove holding his wrist steady * will make his X on an executive order that the first debate will never be spoke of again.

13. They are working on killer one liners.
Ones that they hope will provide the defining moment of debates 2 and 3. Sort of like Reagan's "comeback" reference to "my opponent's youth and inexperience" in his second debate with Mondale. But as Bush is not convincingly "good-humored," as Reagan supposedly was, his lines will probably be more like zingers, aimed straight for Kerry's heart. Whether or not he can pull them off, I don't know. I wouldn't write him off.

14. Do his folksy schtick
Not get visibly mad. The "town hall" format for the next debate is his best chance to pull off an empty-headed Good Buddy Prez performance. Seriously, there's still an army of beltway pundits primed to seize any scrap of half-assed competence that they can spin into a "win". CBS's trio of "experts" declared the last debate a draw, with one of them adding that if Bush didn't lose, then he won (!!). Post-debate spin turned public opinion against Gore, it can happen again. It's not over yet.

16. He can't do much, but he'll try to salvage it.
My best guess: lots of hot-button topics like the pledge, gay marriage, abortion, flag-burning, faith-based crap that will elicit applause from at least part of the audience and, if he's really, really lucky, put Kerry on the defensive.

But I think he's going to bomb again.
