C-span Event....Vetwife,,Got through it..Update on the happening !
Edited on Mon Oct-04-04 01:16 PM by vetwife
Well, The C-Span bus rolled in and coffee and donuts and the C-Span People said this was an event that I would host. There were quite a few people who passed through and the press was there. We had no incidents but we did have a boycott of sorts. No educators, no uniformed police, which meant security was not made available in my opinion by this hometown but the people who did pass through were mostly dems. I have no idea how my article from the press was received, guess the paper will tell.

Jukes a Duer was there and I was pleased as punch to meet him and we all got shirts, pens and I was presented with a huge plack signed by Brian Lamb and it was a pretty day. The cameras were flashing from the local press and I sat in the same seat as Former President Clinton for my interview. Was it taped? I don't know. I know there were plenty of pictures and the press was flashing during my interview with the papers. I think one of the the coolest things was that this bus had just came from the Debate with Kerry/Bush and we talked about them being in the spin rooms. It was a good Day !
They told me when I was in Washington I would be welcome at C-Span anytime. Made me feel good. I tooks several shots at CNN even with the local papers. I got to spin George Washington as a Winger would do it and some folks got a laugh. When the Vet organization was mentioned I was totally non partisan as should be under 501 C status. I think the city council, and manager who sat there for all of ten minutes was enduring but I was proud that they showed up. The mayor did not.
This was an International News Studio in a small town but I am glad we did not have any confederate rebels out there yelling. Will post pics as soon as I can, mine and the ones C-Span is emailing to me.

Part of the presnetation on the bus was Franken and O'Reilly screaming at that Book event where O'Reilly made a jerk of himself screaming Shut UP !. We all laughed. Made Fox look pretty bad for the fencesitters ! LOL
Jukes had his DU shirt on and there was Kerry buttons there as well !

9. Yep as soon as I can figure this camera out and the media portion
Edited on Mon Oct-04-04 02:04 PM by vetwife
I will scan. I will stream some of the C-Span adventure when I figure out the camera. You know. My camera went down Saturday and had to get another one and the filming was unsure until I just check it. The fellow from C-Span and I were sitting there talking and I said it was amazing how people accept CNN and the news as the gospel like its not all bought and paid for. that actually got on film.
Talked back tot he reporter and the story comes out Thursday so I will have some things to scan and C-Span is emailing me with their pics so as long as I don't bore you all, I hope you enjoy the pics once they are up. What is so awesome was getting first hand news about the spin at the Kerry/Bush debate. They told me I had a good idea with the spinning tops. LOL

It was very noisy in Miami and the spin was even making them dizzy.
They told me about Ralph Reid spinning and Karen Hughes. They did not say much about the Dem spin but of course there was some. I told them I appreciated them turning the cameras on and just letting it roll. By the way the Edwards and Cheney debate will be split as well. They told me. BC-span appealed the decision on the rules of 32 pages and got the Split screen. It was really fun hearing all of this firsthand !

I really am looking forward to them!

So, bush really did stink as bad as we thought he did at the debate and his spinners WERE as pathetic as we thought? :7

12. They were spinning desperately ! LOL
It was an interesting conversation as the spinners were spinning the spinners, from what I gathered. We talked about how they were right there listening and it seems Ralph Reid and Hughes were spinning each other. What he meant to say was? And, the face was a way of expression and? I just enjoyed the talk and said Thank God for C-Span ! They said they just rolled the cameras and watched the tops spin. That is when I told my story about spinning tops.,and they laughed so hard they were almost crying. These people are so professional and courteous, it is unbelievable !

I was thrilled to meet him. My vet and Jukes spent a lot of time under the shade tree after the festivities.

15. Besides the award
Edited on Mon Oct-04-04 05:05 PM by vetwife
There was a huge sign, I was overwhelmed a bit ! That said Congratulations to Amanda Kato for 25th Year C-span Essay Winner. Outside. There was a big table with coffee, donuts, sprite, coke, and a green tablecloth. The Bus said Decision 2004 C-Span. The inside was a studio and that is where we sat where the book tv and President Clinton and many others have sat. That put a smile on my face. There were long couches facing monitors and studio equipment.
Comcast reps were there and brought goodies. Pens, Pencils, etc.
memo pads, and stress relievers for the hands. C-Span gave my husband and I two Fleece Jackets that said C-Span engraved on them.
We all got C-Span Tee shirts with Election 2004 on it. The plaque presentation was done three times as phot ops. I got a call back from the paper and said anytime I wanted an interview they would do it. That blew me away. We received really nice pens and lapel pins.
The City Hall did not seem happy at all as I just scrunched in between them as said, "Well glad you could make it". The only one who congratulated me of the city was the Police Chief who was gracious. The city council member and the city manager HAD to show up but looked like they had rather be somewhere else, especially when C-Span ran the interview of Franken and O'Reilly. That was a hoot. I loved that !

The Comcast Rep told me that Katherine Harris told Vanity Fair that
she felt she was Esther from the Bible. I said, "She said what"?
She repeated it. I laughed and said Jezebel maybe, Esther ..thats a joke ! I need to read that article.
Seems that some in Washington already knew about the Katy Harris and my exchange on CNN. The rep from Comcast was a Kerry supporter IMO. And we really enjoyed the day. If you knew this area, you would know why some of the county did not show. All in in all it was a good day. Some of the kids next door said they saw us on TV, there must clips locally. One of the C-span folks said that I knew quite a bit about C-Span, enough to land a job there.LOL! I asked if didn't the others know the senate and congress and they said, Well you seem to be the wild card of the winners knowing the senators and the legislation on some of this and not only that you know the programming. God that really sounded like all I do is watch C-Span but come to think of it, it is burned into my TV screen. (The logo)

I just got an email from the local dem party who asked if I wanted to be an officer of the democratic party but I tell you, I am pooped. My plate runnith over. And I was asked if I was planning on running for anything in the area. Nope. I told them I rather try to be part of the solution rather than become part of the problem. Would just watch our leaders and I quoted Ben Franklin regarding the Patriot Act. I got a lot in but my head was buzzing from winging it and now I have a headache. thanks Guys for your support ! I understand for those who couldn't make it but it was an enlightening thing and I was told that If in Washington please come on by C-span. I said I would.

16. My Fundie sister did not show up and asked
Well, how big a deal is it to have a news bus visit you?
I hung up. She has no idea the difference between CNN and C-Span and Fox. The truth is, she does not even know what C-Span is. If its not Faux or local news, its just not news. I think we come from different worlds. Its not jealously, she is really that way. go to church, not give my Dad a dime, teach Sunday school and gripe about needing more money while she has 4 cars and two homes.

and started a separate thread. Sorry I didn't see this one but was anxious to get the word out. Wish I had been there. But I must say it was the most powerful protest yet. God bless you Vetwife.

On edit; I was referring to the protest in D.C.
