a mini-report from OK

Today I was at the prescription counter and asked the young woman cashier if she were registered to vote. She said yes. I then said (very quietly) I hope you're voting for Kerry. When she smiled, I said somewhat louder, don't vote for the incompetant one.

A very nicely groomed woman ca late 40s-early 50s was passing by ca 5-6 feet away. I really don't think she heard my Kerry comment. She said rather loudly, president Bush is not incompetant.

If indeed she did not hear my Kerry comment, her remark indicates that republicans even in OK are aware that many consider bush to be incompetant.

2. I live in oklahoma

and I'm like the only freaking democrat I know, other than my family and the dozen or so I've managed to convert. I have to hide my political leanings here lest I be attacked. I work for the US army as an engineer (I'm civilian, not military). EVERYBODY at my place of work is a republican. I don't think democrats have much of a chance in this backwards assed place. I so want to move somewhere more liberal. It's like a nightmare here.

You should hear some of our dumbassed laws apparently made by the fundies. Beer has to be 3-point, liquor stores must be closed by 9 and all day sunday, you can't get a tatoo, sodomy is illegal, they constantly vote against a lottery calling it gambling (yet we have indian casinos everywhere where half the population here spends their lives) and so on and so forth. I hate this place.

Guys in Southwest Arkansas have to go to Oklahoma to even GET beer; 3-point or otherwise.

4. That really sucks

We should ask ourselves why we live in these places. Oklahoma is a shithole, and it has laws and people I don't agree with or get along with. I can't figure out why I'm here :)

7. I was born in D.C.

My family moved here when I was pretty young. I moved back to D.C. when I turned 18, but missed my family so I moved back to Oklahoma about 8 years ago. It's like a black hole here...
