had a great experience at wal-mart
Went to Wal-mart tonight and while I was looking at the video section an employee asked if i needed any help and I asked when Farenheit 9/11 is coming out. After he told me, he said he hadn't seen it yet, but that he wanted to. He did say that he saw "bowling for Columbine" and loved it. We then got into the election and he said he disagreed with Bush and his policy but he also was unsure of Kerry because he didn't know of Kerry's specifics. He said he probably was NOT going to vote on election day. I then told him about Johnkerry.com and democrats.org and told him that's where he could find the specifics. He said he would definitely look into it. I feel really really good that he'll vote for Kerry now. :-)
Even better: this wal-mart is located in the heart of Bush country in Adams County, PA!

I have a really good feeling that there are a TON of anti-bush people out there. the only thing is, most need a little nudge to vote for Kerry. We can do this, I can feel victory now. Plus, I just got done with a conference call involving various reps from colleges all over PA. I can feel victory.....

Question is, what were you doing at Walmart?
We are supposed to boycott them as good Dems! Sigh! I know I get trpped and have to go there sometimes but I do try to avoid it! Smile!

8. Not boycott. Spread the word. I go to Walmart...
As most things are NOT cheaper, I don't buy much there.

But I do make allusions or outright statements or, whoopsie, drop pro-union materials and business cards. O8)

19. I have to shop at Wal-mart right
now because I can't afford anything else. Though Target has some of the stuff I need, it doesn't allow lay-aways, which I need to do.

On the other hand, I think of the Walmart employees like I do the troops. I can support them without supporting their commander in chief or CEO whichever it is. I sympathize with their plight and take the time out to empathize if and when I can, and try to never treat them with disdain or contempt. It's unfortunate that they're so badly paid, but I'm sure most of them are "slightly" better off than if they had no jobs at all, like a lot of the rest of us.

5. The Wal-Mart in My Town

The Manager yesterday said once again that he wasnt going to carry it because he felt it was political propoganda.....I ask him then .....Why do you have UNFIT FOR COMMAND and The Family as well as Al Frankens book on Lies in the book section.....

His answer!!!!!!!!!.......I dont have time to debate you on this issue.......I asked him if his District Manager would.....He then said I could leave the store if I didnt like the policy.

10. Very odd that he'd carry some liberal books but not a liberal movie DVD

Still, any non-republicon form of media in any walmart is a godsend.

13. I don't think that a store manager has that kind of clout to
not carry something that is contracted by the corporate buyers to be sent to every store. Lions Gate and Sony are BIG PLAYERS in home entertainment and they couldn't afford to jepardize that relationship. They just might find that their future shipments are late arriving, or never arrive.

Bottom line, money talks and bull shit walks, even at Wally World.

2. I suppose it's good that they don't show up to vote for Bush.
It would be so much better if they show up to vote for Kerry. You better mobilize your Kerry people there to get those votes into the polls.

4. Obligatory "I--hate-Wally World" post
There is no excuse to shop at Wal-Mart. None.

Everything you need can be bought at another slightly less-evil chain store.

6. I have a Wal-Mart story, too.
Disclaimer: I can count on one hand the number of times a year I go there, but I was looking for something specific and couldn't find it anywhere else.

I had on my Kerry-Edwards Hope not Fear button (Atman's?) and I was next in the check-out line. The check out lady was a senior citizen--I'll bet she wasn't working that job just for a little mad money. While she was still checking out the people in front of me, she spotted my button and her face just lit up. "Oh, you too?" she said. So we were chatting while she rang up my stuff. I gave her the button and she was thrilled. Said thank you several times. She told me an anti-Bush joke and the man behind me didn't appreciate it too much. I sure hope he didn't report her. (This is in TX, by the way.)

7. Well, I never thought I'd see *that* thread title on DU!
:spank:

Seriously, a lot of folks are coming around. Even my mom is teetering on the edge of not voting for Bush, and if you would've told me that a year ago I would've fainted.

11. Ah come on, you're pulling our leg, right...?
Someone came up to you and asked if they could help you. Yeah, right. Nobody does that anymore. I'm not even sure there are any employees in dept stores except at the checkouts.

21. yeah, really
Seemed like a really nice guy. I agree with the poster that says we should treat the employees like the troops, seperate them from their CEO/CINC.

I'm in college and this Wal-mart really makes it a point to cater to college kids. I was there tonight to drop off film to be developed.
