Question re: stem cell research and Dems

I was phone banking yesterday and one of the people I called told me that he wasn't voting for Kerry because of the "you know, the morals thing on the stem cell research." He hung up before I could ask any further questions. For background, he's early 20s, registered Democrat, but unlikely voter (voted once or never before).

The only opposing viewpoints to stem cell research that I have heard have been from the pro-lifer, religious point of view. Can someone offer any other opposition? Or does this kid, like our president, not understand the issue?

1. The only moral issue is the one dreamed up by the ignorant

Unless you count the moral issue of throwing cures in the trashcan and watching people die rather than utilizing this medical miracle.

Until some Right Wing Nut with a position opposing Stem Cell Research (and application there of) can explain to me why throwing the cells into biowaste bucket is morally superior than curing people, I can only conclude they are full of shit.

2. I think a lot of people equate Stem-cell research with Cloning

that's why the resistance.

And, of course, our media does 'so much' to help clear up the confusion by explaining this issue in the cover stories of it's major magazines, etc. </sarcasm>
