It happened again
Edited on Tue Oct-05-04 06:25 AM by SHRED
How many times has this happened to you?

You are debating a rightie, about the candidates, and when they get overwhelmed with factual truths they abruptly try to end the discussion with comments like, "Well they are all just a bunch of liars" "Can't trust any of them".

This happens to me quite a bit.

1. very common
Tell them there are lies and then there are lies. For instance a lie about a blow job or a lie about why we must invade a country and slaughter thousands. Which is worse?

They tend slip into melt-down after that. ;-)

2. I get that response, too.
Plus, I always hear something like, "I don't really want to argue with anyone about politics." Then they abruptly walk away because there IS no arguing, Bush is incompetent and they KNOW it. That's what upsets me so badly. I've talked to so many nitwits who know he's wrong, but they are voting for him anyway.

5. Re: "I don't really want to argue about politics"
Many people don't want to argue or think about politics. Politics makes their head hurt. Faux and Co. make politics easy on the brain by not demanding their viewers to use reason, and they can identify with W because he's not the brightest tool in the shed either. Thus, he gets their vote.

6. Well
I can see why not arguing about politics might in some cases be a good policy. It's not just that politics is complicated or whatever; it's that it makes people angry, and upset, and can ruin friendships. It's a valid question of whether or not it's really worthwhile to sacrifice a friend on the alter of politics. Some would argue that if your friend is a republican he or she shouldn't be your frieand anyway, but that's not really a policy everybody can live up to.

Anyway something to consider.

Bryant

9. In personal relations, of course.
Politics should never take priority over friendships. It's just when total strangers pull out with the argument "I'm right, but I don't want to argue with you because it makes my head hurt" that I get annoyed.

I think it is just a defense mechanism for ignorance.

10. YES! I got "There all idiots, screw em all" sometimes too!!
Bush is INDEFENSIBLE! They're only recourse is diversions and stereotypical politico bashing...sort of a slash and burn technique.

I hate it! They just can't take themselves from "Bush sucks" to "Kerry's a good alternative". AAARRRRGG!
