Is it possible to copy Fahrenheit 9/11? Or is it encoded? |
|
You guys who now have bought copies should be able to tell us. For very little $ we could make VHS copies and give them out free to people who won't pay to see it. I would certainly hope that Michael Moore wouldn't mind.

2. I am pretty sure they are copy protected |

What you suggesting is illegal. Plus there are other people involved in the deal (the distributor etc.) You want them to continue working with liberals in the future, don't you?

3. If they haven't made enough damn money on this movie yet, |
|
then I question their motives.
Say how about an answer from somebody who actually HAS the DVD or VHS? What are the copyright warnings?

4. These are different people, the ones who distribute DVD |
|
and the ones who do the theaters. Whatever you think about their motives, I don't think it's a practical way to go.
(I have no doubts you mean well :pals: )

5. And there is a BIG difference in making copies for personal use... |
|
and copies for sale. The second is called pirating.

7. But if you make copies to distribute for FREE... |
|
well, let's just say, Michael Moore has SUGGESTED that for his movie. I doubt he'd suggest doing that without making sure it was legal first. Either way, if I do make copies, I'll be giving them away... I think Moore is more concerned with getting people to see it, and hopefully affect the election, than the money involved. Either way, be careful.

12. And distributing homemade copies |
|
is also piracy. A fair use claim can only be made for copies for archival purposes.
In any case, there probably hasn't been a major release without copy protection in over a decade. So, no, you won't be able to copy it to tape, unless you've got one of those Macrovision-busting gizmos.

19. Then, would you do me a favor? |
|
Would you speak up about the continual demands that *everyone* should see the movie???
(Also, many, many demands that everyone should buy it and give it to others!)
When you sternly remind everyone about "legality", then surely it must cross your mind that not everyone here can afford to go to the movies, not everyone can afford to buy the blessed thing, let alone buy copies for others.
I'm continually amazed at the assumption that everyone here is muddleclass.
Can we try to understand these economic differences, if we're going to be so caring about corporations?
Thank you.

6. People who won't come to a free showing or borrow it from a library |
|
aren't going to view a copy you give them for free..especially if they are die-hard repukes...sorry but you would be wasting time and money.
Why not donate a few that were purchased legally to libraries in your area and then perhaps organize some viewings???

11. Exactly... get together a public showing in a local theatre (if possible) |
|
then have a discussion about it afterwards. Just distributing pirated copies is really not the answer.

|
http://www.dvdshrink.org/where.htmlThis will copy and compress the entire DVD so it'll fit and burn onto a DVD+-R.

Michael Moore might not mind but he's not the only person involved in the movie.

10. M. Moore was trying to get F 9/11 broadcast on TV before Nov. 2nd |
|
so I'm certain it wouldn't bother him. The DVD people I don't know about. I do know people who wouldn't be able to come all the way out to my house for a showing and who also don't have a DVD player (shocking, yet true!), so a VHS copy would be the perfect way for them to see it. One is an undecided, too. Not voting for *, but not with JK just yet. This movie would do it, I know it would. JK may not be in it, but the anti-* feelings after seeing it would tip the balance. A LOT.

18. FWIW Michael said he doesn't believe in copyright laws |
|
At an appearance in NJ two weeks ago he said knowledge should be shared, not owned. He encouraged people in the audience to copy his new book Will They Ever Trust Us Again? and pass it out as far and wide as you possibly can.
However, the profits from that book are going to veterans' organizations and for legal defense for soldiers who refuse to serve, so I think it's a worthy cause.
Also, as was mentioned above, there are other people besides MM who are trying to make a living distributing movies, and in addition to that, pirating DVDs is illegal and will likely get you into trouble. He is donating thousands of copies of F9/11 on his own, so I trust he will get them into as many hands (and minds) as possible.
