Rumsfailed tells the truth.... then says he was "misunderstood"
I guess Rumsfailed had a brief encounter with the truth and didnt like it.... only took hours to go back to the LIES again.

NEW YORK - Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said in a speech that he knew of no clear link between the al-Qaida terror network and Saddam Hussein, although he later backed off the statement and said he was misunderstood.

Asked to describe the connection between the Iraqi leader and the al-Qaida terror network at an appearance Monday at the Council on Foreign Relations, the Pentagon chief first refused to answer, then said: “To my knowledge, I have not seen any strong, hard evidence that links the two.”

Several hours after his appearance, Rumsfeld issued a statement from the Pentagon saying his comment “regrettably was misunderstood” by some. He said he has said since September 2002 that there were ties between Osama bin Laden’s terror group and Iraq.

2. The very first time he says something very plainly and truthfully
Now he tells us he was misunderstood. I understood what he said very well.

3. As I watched him with my own eyes...
...and heard him with my own ears saying this I wondered just how long it would take before the asshole started backpedaling. That wasn't long at all. Right on schedule, in fact.

4. Two words: Mixed message

Didn't Bush say that brings comfort and resolve to the enemy? Is Rummy with us or against us?

"So I don't worry about, and people shouldn't
worry about a draft. . . I think we're in good
shape, I really do. And, if not, we'll -- I'll address
the nation
. But I don't see any need to right now."

5. Was Rummy sober for a couple of minutes or something?
Then, Rove had to drug him up to get him back 'on message'.

6. At least Bush AND Blair support his statements
Edited on Tue Oct-05-04 12:35 PM by Cronus
Transcript from the Whitehouse of a news conference on January 31, 2003:

THE PRIME MINISTER: Adam.

Q One question for you both. Do you believe that there is a link between Saddam Hussein, a direct link, and the men who attacked on September the 11th?

THE PRESIDENT: I can't make that claim.

THE PRIME MINISTER: That answers your question.

+++

So Bush, Blair and Rumsefeld all agree. Why does Cheney continue to contradict his president?

7. Oh no!
Mexed missages now have extra melted chedder on them.

This could destroy the morale of our troops, as these guys have been telling us. It will send the wrong missages to the people of Iraq.

Now yes, Osama and Saddam exchanged gifts just once, (reportedly neckties) a long while back. Hence, the misunderstanding about what kind of ties there were between them.

They are known to have hated each other so much, (neither one liked his tie it seems) that they started sending each other lewd, rubber novelty items thereafter.
