The Daily Show was great last night, Desmond Tu Tu is the cutest old man
alive. I think that Mr. Tu Tu was so inspirational last night. Even Jon ended the interview telling Tu Tu how cute he was.

Very Yoda like as far as I am concerned.

I just wanted a thread dedicated to last nights episode, I was very moved and it made me feel great. Thanks to Jon Stewart and Desmond Tu Tu, for being themselves.

4. did you know that HE is acting off-broadway right now?
Minutes before he made his theatrical debut in a production of the documentary play "Guantánamo: Honor Bound to Defend Freedom," DESMOND TUTU, right, the retired South African archbishop who spent most of his life publicly attacking the apartheid regime of his own country, came down with a common case of stage fright. "I have butterflies," Mr. Tutu, 72, said backstage at the Culture Project (45 Bleecker Street, Greenwich Village) on Saturday night. "I'm not used to playing someone else. Why did I get myself into this?" Mr. Tutu, surely the only winner of the Nobel Peace Prize to star Off Broadway this season, made an appearance in two performances of the play about human rights over the weekend, playing the part of Lord Justice Steyn, a British magistrate who objects to the detainment of political prisoners at Guantánamo Bay, an American military base in Cuba. For his efforts on Saturday night, at least, Mr. Tutu received a standing ovation

2. Awesome compassion exhibited by the Archbishop.
The real kind, not that fake assed, ironic, "conservative" brand.

3. You are only as old as you feel ...
Tu Tu was inspirational and full of loving kindness. I see him as very young at heart, yet very Wise with understanding. Spiritual peace emanating is better than words.

6. Why can't all religious people be like him??
He was so enchanting, and so Christian. He was absolutely wonderful.. I wish EVERYONE could hear him speak about the war, about America.

Do the people that have tried to hijack Christianity with "believer", "non-believer" nonsense believe that he is "Christian"? I really wonder about that.. I know that they have opinions officially about all that. Would he be "Left Behind"?

7. I read Arundhati Roy's description of hearing him speak once...
She said that he had just been diagnosed with prostate cancer, he looked like he was completely worn-down, and that he was telling the crowd about how they needed to remain positive in the face of uncertain times -- that it was not, by any stretch, a tremendously "uplifting" subject.

Later that day, there was music playing and she looked over and saw Desmond Tutu dancing in the middle of a circle of people. She said that it reminded her that no matter how difficult things may seem or are, that it's important to embrace the little moments of celebratory happiness throughout life.

I think that sums up Tutu quite succinctly. As Emma Goldman famously said, "If I can't dance, then it's not my revolution."

8. he's one of the funniest people I've ever heard ...
I confess to have stolen some of his lines, such as "May I butt in?" to an interviewer who was a bit longwinded.
