Quagmire: My Son Returned From Iraq Last Night For R/R...
He total me a story about the Iraqi National Guard, the Iraqi troops we're training so we can pull our troops out. They caught a group of them setting up an ambush of U.S. troops and fortunately thwarted the attack. With friends like that who needs enemies?
He also said that political arguments among the U.S. troops have become so heated they were ordered not to discuss politics.
I know * says everything in Iraq is going great, but I don't think he'll be able to convince the troops of that. So far, he's only able to convince a domestic crowd of the willfully ignorant and easily mislead.

1. when your foundation (for war) is a corrupt mess, everything you pile on
top of it is only making the situation worse. those with open minds can all see it, and were not even there!

how is your son doing? what branch is he in?

7. He's Doing Well, Just Wishes He Didn't Have To Go Back
He is with the Colorado National Guard, attached to the Army. Fortunately, he changed his MOS from his prior service in the Army, which means he's not exposed to danger as much as the guys stationed farther to the north.
Thanks for your best wishes, I'll pass them on.

2. Three more months to wait for new leadership is a long time when
things are going this far downhill in Iraq. Give your son a pat on the back from me, mckara, and thank him.

4. I'm happy he's safe and home
and all my hopes and prayers that he remains so. This 'war' is insane but the men and women who are in Iraq and Afghanistan have my respect and hopes that they exemplify humanity.

6. Oh mckara,
this must be so hard for you. I hope you have a good visit with him, and all my prayers for his continued safety.

I always appreciate it so much when DUer's let us know what is going on with their family members and friends who are in Iraq. It keeps the reality of it alive, and helps me focus on what matters in this election.

9. I am tempted to say, don't let him go back
And I'd bet that's crossed your mind (and his) during his R&R. Your son's in a lot of people's thoughts and prayers, even decrepit old pacifists on the West Coast.

13. Please explain how non-cooperation with an immoral action is "wrong"
I'd like to see your logic on this one.

10. mckara -- a couple of sites your son should check out...
http://www.ivaw.net -- Iraq Veterans Against the War

http://www.optruth.org -- Operation Truth, founded by an Army NG officer who served in Iraq named Paul Rieckhoff, dedicated to getting the TRUTH about what our troops are facing out to the public

If you or your son wants to know more about either of these, please IM me.

12. Bless you and your son
My daughter was hope from Afghanistan late August early September. She was telling me things that definitely led me to believe all is not well. I pray for all our soldiers safe return.

14. I've also read -- and can't find it now
that the insurgents have better intel than we do, so much so that they know in advance exactly when air strikes will occur. This may be because they have people on the inside in the NG, Police, etc., who have access to this knowledge, or perhaps they also are able to monitor our communications.

I hope your son has a wonderful stay for R/R, that he stays safe and comes home soon for good. I thank him for serving. Tell him I and others wish we could've stopped this madness before it began, but it just wasn't to be.
