Gee with all the removal of information on Goverment websites...
Here's one that hasn't been updated recently:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/03/20030321-4.html

notice: no troop breakdowns.

Also notice: Costa Rica has said "We're not members!"

Also notice: the "weapons argument" is used.

Here's what's missing:

1. Would you mind a minor rant from a Brit?
American government websites are either very difficult to use or contain very little useful information.

The UK has the website of the Office for National Statistics - http://www.statistics.gov.uk/ . This is an archived clearing-house for every measured number the UK produces. Everything is stored there.

As a journalist, I recently had to research an article that involved the US economy and could find few useful numbers despite hours of trawling. I went to the "public face" websites of your major government departments - Treasury, Labour etc. and came back disappointed. I had to rely on non-gov numbers.

Is this deliberate? Notice how the ONS figures are not glossed - it is impartial and unbiased, because it is run by the Civil Service.

Am I looking in the wrong place? Is there an ONS-equivalent site that I can use? Am I looking in the wrong way?

A little help would be appreciated, please.
