Can't buy "F-9/11" in our town. Nope.
I stopped at the local video store this morning to purchase a copy of "Fahrenheit 9/11". Not only was it not displayed, there were none in the entire store. Did I mention that there was a prominent display of "The Passion of the Christ" for sale? I asked the employee where "Fahrenheit 9/11" might be located. She informed me that it was "too controversial" and they "wouldn't be carrying it." She also allowed that "nobody's interested in that movie, anyway." I let her know that it made over $120 million at the box office; obviously, someone wanted to see it. I told her (on my way out the door,) to tell the owner that not only would I be purchasing a copy at another store, I would be telling others in our small town that the video store censors what customers see.

Next up: The local Safeway. Yeah, it's for rent. No, it's not for sale. "Too controversial in an election year." I will be dealing with the manager of the store over this one, especially since they -- again -- have a very prominent display of "The Passion".

We will be driving ten miles out of town to get the DVD. Censorship is alive and well in America.

15. I do
Here's the deal, though: To post the phone number would give away our hometown. Since we live in a smaller town, it would be very easy for F*eepers or worse to find our house. We live in Western Washington, believe it or not.

I'll be dealing with both the video store ownership and the manager of the local Safeway. If you all find this kind of crap in your communities, I hope that you'll do the same.

3. Where do you live?
Geesh, too "controversial" for al election year? If the Swift Boat Vets for Bush came out with a movie do you think they'd carry it? I bet they would.

I'd call back and ask if they have it. When they say no, ask to speak with the owner and tell him you're boycotting their store and will tell everyone else you know to do the same.

5. Mention Netflix carrying it
Just say maybe you'll sign up for Netflix so you can join the rest of America instead of living in his small-town censorship.

8. This happened in Washington State????
Wow.. you must be on the EAST side of the Cascades! Please.. do NOT let this slide. Appeal to everyone you can on this.. how utterly WRONG it is for Safeway not to carry it. I assume the other place was a privately owned store? Unbelievable! I'm in Western Washington, and have yet to go out today to buy it.. but I don't think I'll have any trouble. Fred Meyer and Target both have it in their fliers... try there, if you have one.

11. Wal-Mart

I called our local Wal-Mart,(small South Alabama town) this morning about 0840 to see if they had it for sale today. I was told that they did by the lady who answered the phone however she said they only had 8 copies. I asked her if she would hold one for me and she said not to worry they would be there, as if nobody wants to see "that movie". I went on down anyway and got if for the same price Target in Mobile, Al. had it. I had a conversation with the young female clerk that was working in electronics about the movie and why they only had 8 copies. She said they did not expect it to sell very well. I told her that the theatres thought the same thing but that it turned out to be the largest grossing documentary ever. She said she wanted to see it. I told her she should. She asked if I were voting for Kerry. I told her that I was, and she stated she was undecided. I again told her to watch the movie and then to remember that Wal-Mart has donated 3+ million dollars to *'s campaign. I hope she watch it and get pissed enough to get other Wal-Mart employees to watch it...could catch on and there are a lot of Wal-marts in the country and they are among the worst violators of employees in the country.

12. Got mine today, along with
"The Hunting of the President" from Amazon. I am trying to get all the books and whatever else about this idiot. After all he will go down in history as the "worst ever" president in the history of this country. I don't think anyone will ever come close again.

13. Controversy = Sales
Edited on Tue Oct-05-04 04:48 PM by UdoKier
How can it be "too controversial"?

Do they have gore fests like "Reservoir Dogs"?

Smut flicks like "Wild Things"?

F-911 doesn't promote murder or illicit affairs like thos films. What's the gripe?

Their reasoning makes no sense.

People should be able to buy or rent it and decide for themselves.

17. Bought mine at Costco
clerk said "Didn't this get released today?" I said "yep"

The display was pretty empty when I grabbed mine: it could probably hold about 50 DVD's: this was around 1:30 pm so they were flying! (Costco opens at 11 am)

Tut-tut

18. How can "F9/11" be more controversial than...
... Mel Gibson's sadistic, anti-Semitic, not-by-the-letter-of-the-Gospel snuff flick?

Try THAT on your local FReeper video clerk loser.
