i'm tired of spin
Edited on Tue Oct-05-04 10:34 PM by gospelized
i watched the debate with my girlfriend, and when it was over we agreed it was pretty much a draw.

then tweety came on and said cheney obliterated edwards.

then i come online and everyone says edwards obliterated cheney.

can't anyone give an honest opinion anymore? neither candidate messed up. they both reflected their party line and appealed to their bases. it was a draw.

EDIT: that's not considering that every word out of cheney's mouth was a lie. but he did his part and helped portray their ticket as more than bush's bumbling idiocy.

1. I agree - no clear winner here as there was Thursday. The whores are
just SO peeved that it was such a knockout for Kerry last Thursday, that this even matchup just HAS to turn into a 'win' in their little pinheads or they won't know what to do.

2. I'm with you....a draw
...Im amazed at all the appeals that have gone out for Dems to hit the polls enmasse - and are celebrating the polls which are obviously skewed....how is that a victory?

3. Your opinion matters most.
No media outlet is going to be completely unbiased or spin-free. As long as you have formed an opinion on your own, then that is all you need.

Take everything else with a grain of salt. Everyone has their own agenda. Everyone.

4. "Neither candidate messed up"
but one candidate flat out lied in almost every response. The Dick certainly did a convincing job of presenting his lies.

7. I like that--The Dick.
I might start referring to him that way. Do you mind if I steal that?

5. 3 talking heads at CNN all called it a tie. David Gergen, some guy from
BET, and Candy Crowly. I thought it was a tie pretty much, but thought Edwards came across much better with his youthful energy and looks and just plain likeability (don't laugh, lots of people vote based on these characteristics).

6. Maybe the polls are being influenced by Cheneys blatant lies?
Edited on Tue Oct-05-04 10:40 PM by OneTwentyoFive
US has only suffered 50% of deaths in Iraq?
The Bush administration has created 1.7 million new jobs?
The Bush administration will cut the deficit in half in 5 years?

SBJ,these aren't just guffaw's,those are out and out lies.

David

14. Is that like the economic numbers are really great if you count EBAY!?
I love it; he counted the Iraqi forces deaths in the number. That doesn't change the fact that 1,100 soldiers have been killed and that's 1,100 too many.

8. I really do believe Edwards won.
Cheney can sound good, but it's the sneer, the LIES easily disproven and the arrogance that put the nail in his coffin. Cheney is obviously knowledgeable, but it is in the things that most Americans could give a rat's ass about. Most of us don't revel in playing world domination or mass acquisition games. He ended up by giving viewers a sense of fear. I would have loved Edwards to go deeper with the issues, but he couldn't in that format. He came across as capable, and most importantly, knowledgeable of the issues that effect most Americans. He represented hope. He was also very charming and that sure didn't hurt. At one point, I thought Cheney was going to pull his head into his jacket like a turtle.

10. Get a tape and listen to what is being said this time instead of just
watching it. You watch it for body langauge you listen for substances and style. The debate I saw featured a Edwards on the attack leaving Cheney at times unable to defend himself, not mentioning his boss like he was ashamed of him and very unexcited about being there. I saw an Edwards who was able to parry Cheneys weak attacks on him about how many times he saw him in the senate like he was actually looking for him, praising his boss and acting excited about his chances of getting the job of vice president of the United States. Cheney is a smart man, but he was a terrible disadvantage tonight because his boss and the rest of the team working for him have dug a hole for themselves and were looking for the old man to drag them out. Cheney didn't appear to me to have the energy for that and therefore lost the debate to a more exciting opponent.

11. It seemed a tie to folks who follow politics.
But to folks who might just have been watching to learn something about the candidates, I can see where they might think that Edwards won. Mainly because Cheney is such a boring speaker, that even when he makes points, most people can't pay attention long enough to hear them. Edwards, on the other hand, is quite user friendly.

12. This election is so close, it's hard to really tell
I'm the eternal optimist. I like to always see the good side of everything. The wife and I clearly hope Kerry wins next month, but get some solace that, if not, half the voters out there will be happy. Twisted as it sounds, it's true. We don't hate Americans. We know we can do better. But just like a big football game, half the people will be happy then the game is over.

Cheney's arguments held a little water.
