Republicans Accuse Moore of Vote Bribery
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 01:03 AM by God_bush_n_cheney
LANSING, Mich. - Republicans say filmmaker Michael Moore should be prosecuted for offering underwear, potato chips and Ramen noodles to college students in exchange for their promise to vote.

The Michigan Republican Party has asked four county prosecutors to file charges against Moore, charging that his get-out-the-vote stunt amounts to bribery.

1. Question is, In Michigan, Is a pledge a contract?
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 02:02 AM by Scootman78
The article said the habitual nonvoters were invited up on stage to pledge to vote. I didn't see any mention in there where they had to sign anything. I don't know how Michigan law is written up. When it comes to things like this in other states, I would think there would have to be definitive proof like a written contract.

But geeze. Tostitos, a package of Ramen Noodles, clean underwear, and a Clean Dorm Room. It would be a sad sad day in the state of Michigian if the prosecutor's office takes Michael Moore to court over something like this. Its not a new car or thousands of dollars of money.

Shouldn't the GOP in Michigan be focusing their time on threatening county election officials rather than wasting tax payer money on somebody who wants to get people to exercise their right to vote?

Its 3am...and I'm angry. Time for bed.

4. Oh for crying out loud. These people are absolutely
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 02:30 AM by Dem2theMax
fucking nuts! And they totally ignore the fact that Moore is just asking them to VOTE. Not 'vote for Kerry' - just VOTE. Heck, some of them will probably end up voting for * as it is.

So let's see.
Moore + package of Ramen noodles is wrong.
Bush/Cheney + loyalty oath is right?

LMAO!

Edited to add: I'm going to see MM next Tuesday. Who wants the underwear?

6. Michael Moore would make a laughingstock of them in court
He probably hopes they'll do it. He'll have a field day and it'll only make the freeps look stupider than they already do. Remember FAUXNews and their suit against Al Franken? They never learn, do they?

10. I doubt anyone will file any charges.
He's not doing anything wrong. People are not going to base who they vote on by whether Michael Moore gave them underwear and ramen noodles, but it might encourage them to register and remind them to vote on election day. They didn't have to pledge that they were voting for any specific candidate, after all.
