The biggest stories out of this debate are Cheney opposing MLK holiday, |
|
opposing the release of Neilson Mandela, and voting against headstart and Meals on Wheels.
Edwards if anything pointed out what a heartless asshole Dick Cheney is, no spin will make people forget that.
Plus Edwards freaking TALKED to people at the end, he looked straight into the eyes of the American public and said that he and John Kerry want to make this country a better place.
I also thought he did very well on healthcare, plus Cheney can say people aren't having trouble all he wants but that doesn't change the fact that some are choosing medicine over food.
Score Edwards, for out Jesusing Bush at the end to. Edwards has the delievery of a Bapist preacher and it always works for him.
Face people hate Dick Cheney and like John Edwards, end of story.

1. The only issue Cheney displayed any humanity on... |
|
...was the FMA, because it impacts him directly and personally. He's all about the mean and the green. And he doesn't give a crap about anything that isn't directly related to the prosperity and well-being of himself and "his people". I've been waiting for them to make an issue out of his voting record, the man has a deplorable record of opposing action while his hand is in the cookie jar, and then calling for a beheading of the next person that sticks their hand in. He was at the helm of many of the military cuts he attacks Kerry concerning. He has a voting record that makes Jesse Helms and Trent Lott look like moderates. And he's mean and smarmy. His snear, his palpable disdain for "ordinary people" make me want to projectile vomit.

2. He didn't show humanity on the FMA |
|
otherwise he'd have the courage to outright say he disagreed with Bush. He can't even come through for his daughter.

3. True, but all he said in response to the FMA question was... |
|
"I'd like to thank Senator Edwards for his compliments towards me and my family."
"That's it?"
"That's it."
He didn't deny anything Edwards said--possibly for fear of the fact that if he attacked one of Edwards's points, the rest of Edwards's response, including the when Edwards said that he loved and took care of his family--and in politics, denial is everything.
In any case, my respect for him was given a slight bump upwards. If it would be expressed as a percentile, it would still be in negative double digits, but he's not quite as unholy and evil as I thought he was.

4. No, he's even MORE unholy and evil... |
|
...on all the issues, he's the hard right winger, EXCEPT when it impacts him directly and personally. That's not any kind of courage or nobility, it's selfishness.

what could be lower?
trying to leave the homebound sick with no food.
Republican policies actually kill people. Speak it out plain and simple. I never hear it put clearly in mass media. This truth about Cheney is quite clear.

6. Cheney is the kind of guy who if you met for the first time is likely to |

go on and on about himself and finish by saying" but enough talk about myself;let us now talk about what you think about me" and think it is a sign of his humility!

8. I thought that was the high-point |
|
of the debate. I think that it will be one of the factors in helping the "undecided" voters determine that the Bush-Cheney ticket is opposed to that which is good about America and the world.

Years ago, Abbie Hoffman lampooned that school of thought, saying poor people must really love those small, dumpy apartments, because they always crowd into them, and that blacks wanted to come to America so bad that they chained themselves to ships to get here. The sad thing is that we have a president and vice president who believe that.

14. The real wonder of it is that this record which existed all along was |
|
not even examined and exposed during the last elections as though it was not really relevant. The near unanimity in thought that is required of all the press to not examine this matter is similar to the Pravda mentality of ignoring the obvious.Compounding this act of omission, the Press subjected Al Gore to ridicule over the most trivial issues at the urging, I am sure,of Karl Rove.

but wingnuts don't like the MLK holiday or Head Start and don't give a shit about Meals on Wheels or Nelson Mandela.
If my mom watched the debate, I'm sure she likes Dick Cheney even better because of those four things in particular. She's probably convinced that John Edwards doesn't even know where the Senate meets, and I'll bet she has a new reason to support Bushco: fewer suicide attacks in Israel because Saddam is out of business.
Incidentally, I thought that last thing was the most outrageous thing Cheney said last night. I've been wondering if it's a new lie or just the first time I've heard it.

17. read the new book "Dick, the Man who is President" |
|
by John Nichols (who lives down the street from me)-- there's a whole chapter on Cheney's Congressional voting record -- it's a smaller sized book, but a nice overview of Cheney's wickedly self-serving career.

that Cheney keeps the faith with must have loved him except for the equivocation on the FMA, but they all understand the need for a comfort zone of personal hypocrisy. Cheney did not appeal to the rest of America at all. It was like a "Meet the Press" routine avuncular lecture where the nation was eavesdropping and these upstarts didn't belong.
But he did nothing to pump up Bush after Bush's disaster and in so omitting a wrenching task, made his "on focus" memes against Kerry all the more empty and the comparison between himself and his boss strange and negative. The personal witnessing that Edwards forced out of him was obviously very uncomfortable and worse than Nixonian. At least Nixon believed in putting on the schmaltz and heart. Cheney mentions his "working days" and it makes one want to research it for some darker truth.
What a turnaround from 2000. If Edwards had been there then it would have been a closer battle. Since then Cheney has decreased and Edwards increased.

20. Nah...the 'story' was his blatant corruption... |
|
..in regards to Halliburtion...which has been under constant investigation since the early 90s. And let's not forget that his connections in government allowed him to do (under the table) business with sworn enemies of the US...like Iran.
