O'Reilly is on Letterman.

Dennis Miller is on Leno.

Color me paranoid but, to a critical viewer, this comes off as a pre-planned, systematic damage-control team deployed to late-night comedy shows in order to countermand some of the fallout from the VP debates.

Miller went on an overtly racist tangent about killing people with hyphenated names, much to the excitement of about 30% of Leno's sitting audience. This is about as sick as it gets, short of it ending up with a call and response of "seig hail".

O'Reilly, on the other hand, is attempting to be even-minded in order to safeguard his claims of being an "independent". O'Reilly on the subject of Al Franken (paraphrased):

Bill: "If I didn't lie so much, (Al Franken) would be out in the street"
Dave: "So you're admitting you're a liar?"
Bill: "Oh, absolutely!"
