BBV: Counties scramble to sign up new voters
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 01:22 PM by God_bush_n_cheney
With only one month left until the presidential election, King County election workers are scrambling to register a large volume of new voters.

Some people have been waiting more than a month for the county to process their registration forms, and at least a few are getting nervous about whether they will be allowed to vote.

Officials said the delays are largely caused by two events: an unusually heavy number of registrations and an election schedule that puts the primary election uncomfortably close to the Nov. 2 general election.

3. NO. It's Still Biting US in the Ass

It hurt us bigtime by allowing Boosh to hammer us with ads throughout August,
and it's mostly OUR voters who will be turned away when the counties "can't"
process all those applications in time for Election Day.

2. Registration in Chicago closed yesterday.
I understand that activity was brisk.

On the other side, a friend vacationed in the northwestern Illinois countryside last week. Farm field after farm field out there has a big -- I mean BIG -- Bush/Cheney sign. She wasn't talking lawn signs, either.

6. She wasn't impressed.
The towns had occasional Kerry lawn signs, but lots more for numbnuts.

5. yeah that part of IL can get kinda weird.
I've been to the Quad Cities once, and it was a strange experience (granted it was over 10 years ago now)

There are a number of strange highway things on 94 heading into WI and somewhere around there is a gigantic BSA barn as well as that crazy pyramid house near Gurnee.

Keep in mind that IL, if you go by area, is a "red" state, but if you go by population IL is a "blue" state. Chicago and Champaign/Urbana making up the highest population centers.

Also, if informally polling my co-workers of anything (they are all freepers... every last one) they are PISSED off at the IL GOP, and they are pissed at Bunnypants too, though not that vocal about it.

So perhaps the big sign is over compensation for something?

8. take it however you want it to mean
:P

It could be "a small base"
It could be "a small poll"
It could be "I'm a podunk farmer who hasn't had sex with my wife in 20 years and I'm putting up this sing instead"
It could be "___________" (fill in the blank yourself)

9. Western Illinois seems like another state compared with Chicago...
I live in one of those lakefront liberal areas up on the North Side. We are ensconced in our own little progressive world. four years ago, there was some one on the next street over with a Bush/Cheney lawn sign. They moved away shortly after the elction. I don't know if there was a connection, but....

10. Yeah Democrats and Liberalism are different animals depending on where you
go. In my neighborhood of there is ONE Keyes sign and NOTHING else. There is also only ONE "W" sign on the Brown Line that I ride everyday.

However there are just tons and tons of Kerry and Obama signs EVERYWHERE.

I don't get out of the city all that often but when I do, I see Kerry people everywhere. Even in the conservative 'burbs around Chicago, like Hyde's district is just a sea of Kerry and Obama signs.

Maybe the guy who made the "BIG" sign comes to Chicago and has seen the tide of Kerry and Obama signs and felt he had to compensate with a monster Bush sign. Perhaps, in his world, size does matter.

11. I work in Skokie and see Bush/Cheney signs out here.
I've also seen some around Touhy and McCormick. Also saw one Keyes bumper sticker on a car at Peterson and Cicero.

I think the big signs in the country had more to do with being in a farm field vs. a lawn and their ability to be seen over the cornstalks.

12. that's probably the realistic way to do it...
... but my "compensating for something" comment is more entertaining ;-)

13. Of course it is....
that goes without saying. Since I am currently at work, I am forced to focus more on logic than entertainment. damnit.
