LOOK OUT! Price of crude is $52.10 now.
I just saw this on CNBC! I don't watch the markets much, but I check once a day or so, just to see if we can still say shrub's economy isn't what he says it is. Crude continuing about $50 isn't good folks! In fact it rough on all of us, unless you ride a bicycle!!!

7. Ours went up 11 cents
Our gas prices are usually the lowest in the country, but this is getting ridiculous. We're at $1.89.

4. Heck, I get 108 mpg
...since I ride a scooter. But I notice I'm paying a lot more for food, and I'm sure that my landlord will need to raise the rent again due to utility costs (he pays the heat).

Here comes inflation! (might actually turn out to be stagflation).

8. I agree with you about the cost of food!
The food prices have been creaping up slowly for the last 6 to 9 months. I admit, I didn't pay attention to the 5 cents here and 10 cents there, but about 3 weeks ago, I realized that our grocery bill had almost doubled from what it had been. I haven't been buying anything different, and started checking individual items. EVERYTHING has increased! I've stopped buying lunchmeat all together! When they don't sell anything less than $7.00 a pound, I'll eat something else!!!!

10. The kicker in your pic is the price of diesel. THAT kills everything!
Everything we buy is transported somehow! OOPS, I forgot, we don't worry about that 'cause the economy is good...it's growing...isn't it????

11. Hey shrubs economy is doing good...

...if your a oilman, or one in the upper 5% income bracket.

They are blaming it on Mexico of all places, because of a disruption in the Mex crude because of hurricanes. Disruptions always cause higher prices, and oilmen rake in the profits by price gouging everyone, even though there is a U.S. oil reserve set aside for just this sort of thing.

Remember, that if there is a mistake made that causes an increase in profits, expect that mistake to be made again, and again, and again. Likewise with any type of a disruption. If it wasn't a hurricane, there would have been a "terra attack" on the pipeline or something.

Remember folks there are hydrogen powered cars, already running in Germany, just don't expect the oil cartel here to let them catch on too quick.

14. I know, you know, EVERYONE at DU knows...
...but half the *^&#%$#* country is convinced that it is Clinton's fault. That is what is most infuriating of all. All the boy kings life, he has done nothing put destroy whatever he touches, and blame it on the previous CEO, or Governor, or President. And people STILL don't get it!

And here we have hydrogen powered cars, already designed, tested, and running, and are the oilmen in charge doing ANYTHING to wean us of of the oil tit? Hell no.

15. Oil IS modern life as you now know it ...
The short list of what's made with black gold:

Ink, Dish washing liquids, Paint brushes,Telephones, Toys, Unbreakable dishes, Insecticides, Antiseptics, Dolls, Car sound insulation, Fishing lures, Deodorant, Tires, Motorcycle helmets, Linoleum, Sweaters, Tents, Refrigerator linings, Paint rollers, Floor wax, Shoes, Electrician's tape, Plastic wood, Model cars, Glue, Roller-skate wheels, Trash bags, Soap dishes, Skis, Permanent press clothes, Hand lotion, Clothesline, Dyes, Soft contact lenses, Shampoo, Panty-hose, Cameras, Food preservatives, Fishing rods, Oil filters, Combs, Transparent tape, Anesthetics, Upholstery, Dice, Disposable diapers, TV cabinets, Cassettes, Mops, Sports car bodies, Salad bowls, House paint, Purses, Electric blankets, Awnings, Ammonia, Dresses, Car battery cases, Safety glass, Hair curlers, Pajamas Synthetic rubber, VCR tapes, Eyeglasses, Pillows, Vitamin capsules, Movie film, Ice chests, Candles, Rubbing alcohol, Loudspeakers, Ice buckets, Boats, Ice cube trays, Credit cards, Fertilizers, Crayons, Insect repellent, Water pipes, Toilet seats, Caulking Roofing shingles, Fishing boots, Life jackets, Balloons, Shower curtains, Garden hose, Golf balls, Curtains, Plywood adhesive, Umbrellas, Detergents, Milk jugs, Beach umbrellas, Rubber cement, Sun glasses, Putty, Faucet washers, Cold cream, Bandages, Tool racks, Antihistamines, Hair coloring, Nail polish, Slacks, Drinking cups, Guitar strings, False teeth, Yarn, Petroleum jelly, Toothpaste, Golf bags, Roofing, Tennis rackets, Toothbrushes, Perfume Luggage, Wire insulation, Folding doors, Shoe polish, Fan belts, Ballpoint pens, Shower doors, Cortisone, Carpeting, Artificial turf, Heart valves, LP records, CD's, DVD's, Lipstick, Artificial limbs, Hearing aids, Vaporizers, Aspirin, Shaving cream, Wading pools, Parachutes .... and on, and on.

Oil = Modern life. As oil goes up, up, up, the cost of living goes up, up, up. Oil goes away, life as we know it goes away. I am not an economist but it looks like there is a potential for some major runaway inflation if oil prices stay this high for a while.

Sorry to drive home a point, but people think mostly of gasoline and heating oil as the major part of the oil equation.

NOTE: There are efforts to develop non-petroleum-based alternatives to some of the above items, but there is a lot of ground to cover.

16. It's way beyond that...
And hundreds of millions of cars are not helping the problem one bit. We need to wean ourselves off of oil starting ten years ago, and now that peak oil is here, it is imperative.

The US economy is particularly vulnerable to oil problems, not just because the US consumes so much oil, but also because the oil trade worldwide goes in U.S. dollars. Consequently, when the oil trade hampers, the US economy takes the punches.

Our society is addicted to cheap, abundant oil. Our cars, airplanes and ships run on oil. Our electricity is generated in oil-fueled power plants. The stuff you buy in the stores is brought there by trucks that run on oil. In the end, literally everything like you mentioned above, is to some degree made of oil.
