does not lose its tax exempt status? I didn't think the church could openly endorse a candidate.

1. Some members of the church may support Bush
But that does not mean that the church has endorsed Bush

2. There's no endorsement...
... by the Catholic church. This is a site for Bush re-election, not a Catholic Church site. "Catholics for George W. Bush" might imply an endorsement, but there is none here.

Cheers.

6. those kind of statements are very upsetting
when I was a Catholic kid, we were taught to have compassion for others. It was not a right-wing kind of thing. Frequently Catholic clergy in other countries were on the forefront of progressive thinking - thinking about human needs for all people, women, men and kids. My uncle was a radical priest in South Korea who protested regularly against Soth Korea's (Kim regime) poor human rights record and was arrested and apparently tortured for it, we later found out.

It is offensive to me to see the church portrayed by this website as simply a shill for * policies and that Catholics are seen as having such a limited vision ( i.e. anti- abortion only.) There is much more the the church.

15. There are Catholics who are for Bush...
... and are only concerned with the abortion issue. Those are the people this web page is meant to attract.

But, again, this is not an endorsement by the church. That was the original question. I think if you look at the language, nowhere does it say that Bush is being endorsed by the church on that page. It's just meant to attract single-issue Catholic voters.

Yes, pictures of Bush with the Pope are meant to imply an endorsement, and that's dirty pool, but, technically, there's no official endorsement. That's the point. The original poster thought this was a church-sanctioned page, and thought that should affect the church's tax status. The page is from the Bush/Cheney re-election campaign, not from the Catholic Church.

Cheers.

4. I don't think it's THE church
It's just a bunch of random Catholics. Now if the Pope were to start a website like this, that would be different.

I'm part of a Yahoo group, Mormons for Kerry. Of course, we don't sell accept donations and sell "gear."

Notice that it is not copywritten by the RCC, but rather by "Catholic Answers"

But my friend was upset that it was on the shelf in the church.

7. that should not be in the church at all! I love how it
fails to mention that the Pope dennounced the war in Iraq. Let's see we have no abotions, no stem cell research, no gay marriage, no euthanasia and no cloning - but apparently waging war is quite all right. What a hypocrital piece of poo.

9. Well, I must point out that the church didn't write it, but...
obviously someone within that particular church had decided that it was appropriate literature to be put on the shelf for members of the congregation.

14. Democrats for Bush... why did they bother making that website?
What a waste of time! It is absurd to think that any real democrat would consider voting for Bush.
