The curse of Cheney.
I was forwarded this article today while discussing the debate on another forum. It was really a nice mini-intro into the workings of dick(little d) Cheney. Not very flattering. They have a few nice quotes from his former college roommates, and folks hes worked with through the years.

Anyhow heres a snip and a link too a Rolling Stone article from Aug. 25 2004.

>>snip<<

Should George W. Bush win this election, it will give him the distinction of being the first occupant of the White House to have survived naming Dick Cheney to a post in his administration. The Cheney jinx first manifested itself at the presidential level back in 1969, when Richard Nixon appointed him to his first job in the executive branch. It surfaced again in 1975, when Gerald Ford made Cheney his chief of staff and then -- with Cheney's help -- lost the 1976 election. George H.W. Bush, having named Cheney secretary of defense, was defeated for re-election in 1992. The ever-canny Ronald Reagan was the only Republican president since Eisenhower who managed to serve two full terms. He is also the only one not to have appointed Dick Cheney to office.
This pattern of misplaced confidence in Cheney, followed by disastrous results, runs throughout his life -- from his days as a dropout at Yale to the geopolitical chaos he has helped create in Baghdad. Once you get to know his history, the cycle becomes clear: First, Cheney impresses someone rich or powerful, who causes unearned wealth and power to be conferred on him. Then, when things go wrong, he blames others and moves on to a new situation even more advantageous to himself.

"Cheney's manner and authority of voice far outstrip his true abilities," says Chas Freeman, who served under Bush's father as ambassador to Saudi Arabia. "It was clear from the start that Bush required adult supervision -- but it turns out Cheney has even worse instincts. He does not understand that when you act recklessly, your mistakes will come back and bite you on the ass."

Many of you may have already seen it, and lord knows it's nothing many of us didn't already know. Just thought the whole idea of a Cheney "curse" was cool. I am not generally superstitious, but right now i'll take what i can get !

1. Very interesting.
Looks like a great article. Can't wait to read it. I must say, if Old Cheatin Cheney has a long list of victims, I can almost understand it. The guy's got a silver tongue and a stone-cold constitution to match. He comes off sounding good. I had never heard the dude speak until last night.

There's an interesting quote: "Cheney's manner and authority of voice far outstrip his true abilities". That's what I heard last night. An excellent speaker, obviously has a head filled with facts.

But when he addressed the question of AIDS and what he was going to do about it, then I heard a bunch of bullshit blabbering. At that moment, I knew he was nothing but a lying car salesman.

Up until that moment though, I was fooled.

2. Cheny the car salesperson.
Yeah, he could be the guy that sells those high dollar cars, like Bentley, Rolls, Jags etc. Smooth...

He and his wife have accumulated around $70 Mill. If the standard for success is wealth, then they have been successful.

3. thanks for this, gonna bookmark so I can read later
looks interesting, (along with the 150 other things I've got bookmarked to read, heh heh)

Yes I did manage to watch the debate and found myself realizing that if I didn't read here, and therefore know already that most of what Cheney said were lies, I would have rated the debate as closer to a tie (with Edwards still ahead)

Though I did almost splort my coffee when he mentioned Zell as an example of the Thug capacity for embracing democrats and their differences of opinion. gag.

4. What i found interesting...
as well was the direct involvement of Cheney in 3 failed presidential administrations. The only one who stayed away from Cheney and survived was ol' Ronald the thesbian.

While they say he's a big success this article makes a great argument that he is actually a big failure, who screws up, passes the buck, then uses his connections to move farther up.

5. President Doofus finds perfect adviser
especially the reckless lack of concern. The perfect storm of charming stupidity, the REAL stupidity in the whole situation not the moronic incapacities of Bush's speaking habits. The Bush cabal in general has this tendency to find exactly this kind of help or influence. The dynastic disaster has reached its epitome and would take down the whole human race were it allowed to continue.

Americans are too often suckers for the "confidence" demeanor, intimidating "strength", unswerving one-track simplicity, blinders firmly in place. What a great guy what a smart man. And underneath a little child doting on a surrogate parent of such fraudulent assurance it can never be healthy.

6. this is the creepy part
"He has the least interest in human beings of anyone I have ever met," says John Perry Barlow, his former supporter. Cheney's freshman-year roommate, Steve Billings, agrees: "If I could ask Dick one question, I'd ask him how he could be so unempathetic."

8. cheney
He's like one of those guys I've seen in business. Runs a place into the ground and leapfrogs to the next with incredible timing before the shit hits the fan and keeps ratcheting up to better and better positions leaving a path of ruined companies in their wake.

this article does a good job illustrating what a negative effect cheney has on everything he touches.

12. ONE OF THOSE GUYS? I wish it was only ONE!
I worked in the business world since 1961! Believe me, there's a whole lot more than ONE!

It's become more prevalant in recent years, but they've always been there!

Part of it is survival of the fittest! Part is just GREED!!!

11. Telling comment about acting recklessly
That's a hallmark of a sociopath or psychopath: no regard for consequences. Some people think they don't understand; I think they just don't care.

I haven't read the interview, but I will.

13. OK, I finished the article.
It was good. Thanks for filling in the missingfacts on that guy. More than ever, I'm convinced this guy is the manifestation of evil on earth.

Nostradamus said that Mabus would actually be a precursor or the doorway to the AntiChrist. I've think I've figured out who 'Mabus' is (George WAlker BUSh -- turn the W upside down) and now I know who the AntiChrist is.
