As A Democrate...Why?
Why are you a Democrat? What are your beliefs as a Democrat?

I've been a life long Demo and wouldn't know any other way. I believe that we stand for the people, all the people. We look for the downtrodden and ways that we can lift them up. I believe in the future for our children. I believe in education and the environment.

1. And lately even more reasons... Such as...
Not killing people who pose no threat to me
Not lying or manufacturing evidence to support my greed
Not taking money away from the middle class, by taking their overtime away
Not abusing the elderly
Not ignoring children
Not writing discrimination into the Constitution

2. I'm a Dem because I believe
our party has a respect for the individual. We vary from the wild to the sedate and we're really a varied bunch, not cookie-cuttered, and I love that. I also agree with your reasons.

3. As a "regular Joe 6 Pack"
I too am a lifelong Dem. It comes naturally as my dad was a Union man, and they both are caring people who passed on the Democratic heritage to their children.
Now don't get me wrong, I looked at Repubs and others when I was younger because I was curious and sort of a rebellious youth, but in reality never left. Have voted Democratic in every Presidential election since 1976(damn I'm old!) and intend to continue to vote Democratic until I die. Democrats were, are, and always will be the champion of us "regular guys" who are struggling to get by, who just want to raise our families the best we can and create a better life for our children. We have REAL family values. No, we are not perfect, who is, but we admit our mistakes and learn from them. Thank you for posting this thread.

5. I'm a Democrati because.......
I think Repukes are in power for the sole purpose of lining their pockets with more money. Their "tax breaks" only benefit them, despite what they claim.

They do not care about the plight of lower- and middle-class families. The attitude is work harder and you will succeed. They don't seem to realize that we are working our asses off just to survive. Something is wrong with that.

6. Pay attention: Democrat (no e) :-)
I am the only democrat in my family. My Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, Mother, Dad, Sister and Brother are all Republicans. (Although, I doubt my Brother could tell you why he's a Republican.) So, personally, I feel I have a good grasp on why I chose to be a Democrat. As follows: These are the Core values...there's more nuance stuff, but I could write a book.

The Irony of this is that most of it I learned from my Parents and in Kindergarten. RESPECT other people. That's a Dem in the heart of it.

1. All people on the Earth, not just people in the United States, as a whole should be responsible to each other. This does not mean that I am a Socialist, as responsibility to me means: honesty, integrity and compassion for each other in every way..including religion and the environment. People on Government subsidy need to be responsible too...this does not mean forcing them into further poverty, but helping them...really helping them, not just the handouts, but education and social responsibility as well.

1a. Yes, there are people that are ditch diggers, but that should be their choice. Compassion, real compassion...you have no idea what happened to someone during their life, they could have been neglected, abused, hurt, robbed or worse, simply had a bad day...or been dropped on their head as a baby, you just don't know, regardless of this they are human, not something to discard...and kick around...taken further advantage of etc. Otherwise we're just a bunch of animals. And no, I don't need to know their life history, but if they reach out...I'm there and everyone else should be there too.

2. No "special" rights. Everyone should have the most equal opportunity as possible with all the advantages and disadvantages that everyone else gets.

3. Everyone pays their PROPORTIONATE SHARE OF TAXES period! This means if I make $10. and the tax is 30% I pay $3.33. If I make $100 dollars with the same 30% tax I pay $33. If you have it you pay it. No special breaks for either one of us. We're in this boat together...lets pick ourselves up by the boot straps and look in the mirror here and get real.

4. Education and mean it from birth to Ph.D.

5. Military and mean it.

6. Social Security and mean it.

7. Separation of Church and State...and by God keep the fucking thing seperate...respect other peoples religion.

8. Protecting the environment and mean it. This doesn't mean I recycle as much as I should. I try, but could always do better and so could a lot of others, damn-it people, recycle your fucking pop cans at least...you're getting paid to do it, if you chose.

9. It's not mine or anyone else's god given right to anything period. It's not your God given right to have a hand gun, drive a car, safety or freedom...it's something you earn and accomplish...if it's abused it should be taken away. If you know it's harmful then quit doing it. Everyone needs to grow the hell up on this one big time.

10. Science and mean it. Everything from health care to computers. Get the lead out people and evolve, educate.

7. Because there is not a viable Socialist alternative.
I've been a registered Democrat since 1965 but consider myself a Socialist. The Democratic Party is the lesser of two corporate evils. I stay a Democrat so I can vote against the DLC candidates in the primaries.

Being a Democrat requires a strong stomach and a supply of nose pins.
