Notice that the top 11 states in education ALL voted for Gore in 2000. Coincidence, I think not.

13. We should compare Blue and Red States |
|
It seems at first blush that most Blue states are at the top and Red state at the bottom. I guess that should not be much of a shocker though. Anyone who thinks Bush* is doing a good job and will vote for him can't be very bright. My state is number 45. How embarrassing

I can see right-wing blowhards using the fact that "blue" states trend towards the top of this list as an example of liberal indoctrination in our public schools and college campuses.

|
Edited on Thu Oct-07-04 12:01 PM by ProdigalJunkMail
many of the positive and negative factors have more to do with organization and spending rather than achievement...not a good way to rank smarts. Atlanta GA spends approx $10,000.00/year/pupil and has some of the worst achievement scores in the state...

Spending just shouldn't have anything to do with it...nor should the taxation rate...I don't care if you spend six bucks per student; if they are learning it is being done right!

31. It seems about right... |
|
though I would have thought California would have been ranked higher. I'm a Mainer (born there and lived there for 23 years) living in Florida (for almost 3 years). Both my husband and I went to public schools in Maine have experience teaching in public schools in Florida. Maine was ranked 11 and Florida 39. That gap seems about right to me. I was frankly astonished by how far behind the kids were from what I expected when I started teaching. My expectations were of course derived from the experiences I had while attending Maine public schools.
